I find it very surprising when Italian food is not done well. Neither my wife or I enjoyed our meal here. It seemed like they didn’t even try to make it enjoyable. We both ordered what should have been so easy. the wine we ordered was good as was the bread.

I accidentally stumbled upon Vieste, by far and away blew away my expectations. I had a phenomenal tuna dish that was executed perfectly & left me stunned. I introduced myself to the owner and chef and was blown away by how humble talented and hard working they are!!! They ABSOLUTELY care about their customers experience and I will with out a doubt be returning for years to come!!! Please give it a try! Foodies like me need to know about the gems off the beaten path!!!

We had a reservation that we booked several weeks in advance and came here after a day at Jazz fest. Our table was not ready upon arrival and we waited 40 minutes for it to be vacant for us, no comps for drinks or appetizers for this inconvenience. The kitchen was clearly struggling and our dinner turned into 3 hours. The food was bland, not a lot of flavor. The managers never came over to check-in or to apologize, the server was trying his best but several times our waters were completely empty. The only major plus was the band playing, ukulele and standing base, they were crazy talented. Other than them, really disappointed.

The waitress spilled red wine all over my pale blue dress & white purse- and then just did not apologize! The owner says “send me the dry cleaning bill.” I am sorry, what..? I’m a southern belle from North Carolina with 100% Italian descent; manners go a long way with me. I genuinely just wanted an apology. It has NOTHING to do with my ruined new dress. This restaurant just didn’t do anything. The owner came over to gave a half-hearted excuse, after our $313.56 bill came out. This man knows my aunt, he didn’t seem to honor that she was a steady repeat customer of a very expensive Italian restaurant. No discount, not even an, “I am sorry.” The mushroom pasta was quite average and the service was well.. below.

Vieste was excellent! The meal started with the normal bread and oil but I found both to be top quality. For starters we had the Caprese Salad which was topped with some really fantastic prosciutto. Highly recommend the salad. We also had Bruschetta. I can’t even describe it, you have to look at the photo. Again, fantastic. For the main course we split the Gnocchi al Pomodoro but subbed the Bolognese sauce for the Marinara. We enjoyed a glass of the Passimento (Merlot) with the meal. It was a fantastic, super filling meal for two. Highly recommend. As a final note, it has its own parking lot, which is a nice feature in Newport.

We are new to Newport and were searching for a great restaurant to complete our day. While going through foodie tour reviews, we found great feedback about Vieste restaurant and made a reservation. It is a small place, but it was packed on a Wednesday evening. We got gnocchi, salmon and chicken parmigiana. All were delicious and so were the beers that our server recommended.

Had a wonderful dinner here tonight with family. Our server was Hannah. She was excellent. Good recommendations on food and wine. Friendly warm efficient service. Someone kept our water glasses full all evening. Between us we had pasta with bolognese, pasta with broccoli rabe and sausage, and osso bucco made with pork in a cognac sauce. Everything was delicious! The portions were all generous and we took leftovers home. We shared tiramisù for dessert.
