They have extremely good soup and a lovely vintage ambiance. Worth it! Go there.

The food is really good. But the vibe of the owners Is variable. It’s really bad for business to treat any customer as if they are a bother. You’re not doing people a favor! Go take a look at how you act. If you’re going to have a business be nice on a consistent basis. Owners: how do YOU like to be treated when you go out to eat? Why don’t you have the same standards towards your customers? At times you are acting like it’s such a big deal and a big strain… Lucky your food is tasty because you guys are really jerks. Really….. jerks‼️

Food was delicious, large portions, great spot for a good, homemade lunch. Cash only but there’s an ATM nearby. Spend some time in the area and shop, lots to see!

We’ve been coming to The Boarding House for decades. It’s always been my reliably good lunch restaurant. Not anymore.

Hadn’t been to this restaurant for years. Was happy it was still there. Wow have the prices gone up. Almost $20.00 for half a sandwich, cup of soup, and cookie. Turkey sandwich was good, but small. Lentil soup needed more veggies in it, but had good flavor. Had to ask for crackers which an employee had to go get out of the back. And which vere extremely stale and inedible. Had to ask for my cookie which she forgot to give me….Simply not as good as it used to be.

Got a half sandwich (BLT with Avocado) and soup (potato dill). Both were delicious! Really friendly people too.

FYI – cash only. But don’t let that deter you. We happened upon this tiny place while driving out of Seattle and looking for lunch. The chicken salad and egg salad sandwiches we had were outstanding and the rhubarb crisp for desert was to die for. Topped with homemade whipped cream – perfection! The owner was very chatty and friendly and made sure we were happy with our meal. We ate out on the tiny back patio covered in shade by the old growth trees surrounding the house. Simply amazing. If we are ever in the area again this will be our first choice for lunch.

My daughter and I did some shopping and stopped here for the first time to relax and have lunch. I had a great 1/2 sandwich special (grilled black forest ham) and a salad and my daughter had the potato soup and vegetarian sandwich. All tasted wonderful and was fresh. The owner (?) was friendly, the atmosphere relaxed and it feels a little like Grandma’s dining room. I also liked being able to see into the kitchen and watch them carve a whole turkey for sandwiches. I will definitely go back and next time I will have the turkey…

Stopped in around 2:50 p.m. to grab a salad to go. This was close to closing time at 3:00 p.m.. I used to come here regularly and know the people who work here. When I walked in I was excited to see the same familiar faces since I had not been here in over a year. I immediately felt a negative energy coming from the lady who came to take my order (I believe the owner). I felt as if I was being an inconvenience (maybe because it was close to closing) and did not receive a warm welcome whatsoever. Nobody behind the counter greeted me with a smile, they just kind of glared at me. It was extremely uncomfortable and I will not be going back. I would think after all that has happened over the last year they would be grateful for any customer at any time of day. The food was good as always and that’s why I gave it two stars instead of one.

Beautiful, cozy, antique atmosphere. Apple crisp was being baked as we made our orders and the aroma was glorious. We ordered and then seated ourselves in a corner with windows on two sides where we could see the classic rainy Issaquah day outside as well as the goings-on in the open Kitchen. Our parties’ names were called in a timely manner and our lunches were soups, salads and sandwiches. All were well made, nicely plated and delicious. There are a number of rooms with different table configurations which make a nice, slightly more private air for chatting with friends. The vintage wallpaper throughout the establishment, tables and other decor was so quaint and added to the comfortable, homey ambiance. Outside seating is also available and would be delightful for sunny days and trees would provide a bit of shade. The staff was pleasant and helpful and gave us suggestions of other local attractions to visit during our stay in Issaquah. This lovely dining spot is cash or check only so be sure to stop by the ATM on your way, it’s absolutely worth the experience and a “must visit” in Issaquah and the Gilman Village area. We had such a nice time, I hope to return soon. 🙂
