Let me start with the positive first – the food was excellent! We got the traditional English Fish and Chips for lunch and I have to say it is the best Fish and Chips I’ve had in Albuquerque. Sadly, the service was not good. There were only a few customers in the place, one at the bar and two tables, yet we waited almost 15 minutes before being seated. I actually had to go in search of someone to seat us and found two employees leaning behind the bar. one said, “We’ll be with you soon”. Finally another waitress came by and said “you can sit anywhere” and hurried off. (They had the please wait to be seated sign up at the entrance.) After finding a table we waited, and waited, and waited, and were actually getting up to leave when a waitress brought us menus. At no time did we feel like we were welcome.

I’ve been here before. It was packed on the last visit, so it wasn’t crazy busy on the Thursday night visit this time. The beer was cold , and the bar tenders were friendly. My colleague ordered the fish, and chips said they were good. The staff were very busy cleaning and tending to tasks. I will visit again.

I had the blackened salad for lunch. Very tasty, especially with what looked like a homemade Dijon mustard dressing. The Left-hand Milk Stout helped was down the wonderful, reasonably priced lunch. Will be back soon!

From out of town, meeting up with in-town friends who recommended H&T. We didn’t know how many were coming, the waitress and trainee sat us at the long table with smiles and “no problem!”. A dozen friends came in over the next hour, every group being greeted and helped right away with the same smiles from both while checking on the ones already there. I’m sure separate checks were a nightmare, but all I saw was smiles, even small talk with us when we last three left. For a place that didn’t know we were coming, they sure treated us like regulars! The waitress had a dream catcher tattoo, the trainee was a petite blond. Kudos to you two!

Our group from Church goes frequently after services on Sunday for Brunch and enjoys delicious fare from their breakfast menu. Its the best of all worlds, sports for the guys, good food, great service, and lots of room if we have a big group.

I really like Horse & Angel, but the service seems to get worse with each visit. Others are quick to blame the servers, but I am wondering why it always seems to be so short-staffed and why there is such high turnover of servers… Management needs to schedule more servers per shift and prioritize retention. As a former server myself, I can say that fair wages and a respectful work culture are a recipe for success! Keep your staff happy and it gives them the incentive and support to do a good job!

Only because I haven’t gone there enough to really get the full experience. However, the next time I go there, I’ll give it 5 Stars, so I have enough experience to know Horse and Angel Tavern. The waitresses there, are super kind. Few years ago, I went there with my mom and sister, with a bad mood that day. I had a bad attitude to one of them, but there was so kind to me anyway. And so, it goes to show how professional they’ll be no matter what. This is why I’m speaking out today, that when someone has tough skin in the game, especially in this day of how our economy is going, it takes a lot of grit to make this happen. Services like this shouldn’t be forgotten. I commend the staff there!
