Proudly veteran-owned, we are a historic, rustic Montana hunting lodge in the heart of our Southwest featuring old-style charm and locally infamous dry-aged steaks.
We invite you to come visit us in the land of the cowboys, the Horse Prairie, where wide stretches of open plains run directly into towering mountains, our country is dominated by ranches and little wifi service, a broad stretch from the bustling towns of Bozeman and West Yellowstone, surprisingly only a few hours away.
Known for the fantastic hunting, our small lodge caters to travelers, especially when the season hits. Book a room for a family or crew, enjoy some fantastic steaks, or simply stop by the local watering hole for a brew, we love having you!

While driving from Las Vegas to Deer Lodge Montana we were looking for dinner spots along the highway. Horse Prairie Stage Stop had one review that won us over and we decided to pull in for dinner. The service was lovely, the food was delicious, and the local beers were tasty. If you’re on your way in or out of town make sure to stop in. Your taste buds will thank you.

I keep coming back!!! 12 miles west of Clark Canyon Reservoir for fishing and recreation. Fantastic stop along the Tour Divide for cyclist and hikers. Hands down the best dry aged steaks in Montana! The beer is ice cold, or if you prefer, they have a good selection of wine. And hey…… the Macho burrito ( my favorite!) is HUGE!! Great atmosphere and staff. Family friendly restaurant, lots of local cowboys and cowgirls in the saloon. A fun place to discover on The Prairie!

Second time we have ate here. The best steak I’ve eaten. Cooked and seasoned perfectly. Great service. We will be back next time we travel through. Love this place.

Broke down on the interstate on Christmas at 2 in the morning. No Tow companies were answering their phones, was feeling hopeless, stranded in the middle of nowhere near Dillon, MT. Called 911 and they managed to get the Horse Prairie to come rescue me with their Wrecker. Not only did they rescue me, they provided me a very comfortable room for a very good rate for two nights while I waited for part shops to open after the holiday. Not only that, they fed me a delicious Turkey and Ham dinner on Christmas Day! Then Don, one of the wrecker drivers drove me to town for parts on my broke down truck, and fixed my truck for a very reasonable price the day after Christmas! These are the friendliest people, comfortable room, great food, and well stocked bar. I will be returning sometime under better conditions!

Great hospitality and even better food. Definitely rustic hunting lodge with a unique homey ambience that makes everyone feel welcome and part of this military family run operation. Vets and active duty receive discounts. Dinner reservations not needed unless you are ordering the amazing Tomahawk steak. Live music some weekends.

It was getting late on our road trip from Las Vegas to Kalispell and we knew we weren’t going to get up towards the Butte area before the restaurants there would be closed. Started doing some searches for places to eat and saw some interesting reviews about this place. It was a bit out of our way but we decided to try it out. Well worth the trip. It may not look like much from the outside, but don’t let that fool you. The food was great and the staff was very friendly. We had the chicken fried steak, shrimp tacos, and a 16 oz ribeye. You can choose what size steak you want (from 12 to 24 Oz), so it’s not a “one size fits all” steakhouse. The steak was a perfect mid-rare and melted in the mouth. One of the customers at the bar suggested the white gravy for the CFS which was a great choice. The 6 shrimp tacos were tasty, but would have preferred slightly larger tortillas to help hold all the ingredients while eating them. Good selection of beer, both bottled and on tap. If you’re in the vicinity, take the 12 mile detour off of I-15 to try the Horse Prarie, you won’t be disappointed.

I came here from the bike ride after 90km. I was so hungry. I ordered the Stage Burger. Came right away, and everything was perfect. The fries, the burger and the service. After the dinner, I enjoyed staying upstairs in the hotel.

This place is awesome! I’m a Bicyclist on the Great Divide Route. Stopped here for the evening and got 1st class treatment from Amy and her crew. The food and prices of rooms are all awesome. The steak dinner was probably one of the best steaks I’d had in a long time. Definitely worth a stop!
