I wasn’t sure what to expect from this place, but based on the reviews, it seemed like a good spot to try. I was a bit skeptical at first because of the prices, but once it was all said and done, you definitely paid for what you got. I had the fish and shrimp combo and everything about it was tasty! My partner had the chicken and fish combo and he enjoyed it. The truth of the matter is this restaurant hit the spot and I’ll definitely be returning again for another fish dinner.

I really had high hopes for this locally owned business. The gentleman was very friendly. I got the flounder and the whiting. Flounder was dry and got home there wasn’t any tartar sauce or any condiments in the bag. The whiting was just okay. And then I thought I’d try the fried crab as I’d never seen or heard of that. Sadly I didn’t see the point. It’s just batter you get your hands dirty with while you try to break open the crab and still have to pick to get the meat (I didn’t know if deep frying a steamed crab would make the shell softer, it did not).

Portsmouth VA has an abundance of seafood places. Tried this soul cooking and oh my goodness..my mouth was so happy with this fish and grits. The seasonings was used well. This was a wonderful meal. Come and support our local businesses.

The wait was horrible and the fried crabs was not worth the money. The batter was thin and crunchy and the Devil crabs were tasteless. We are never going back. I will say many people apparently love the food there because business was steady. Ownership needs to hire some help and pay people according to their performance. Good help is hard to find, but when you do please pay them or they will leave and go elsewhere. I’m just saying.

As an avid supporter of small businesses, I’ve gone to this establishment twice, including yesterday 3/24/23. The food is mediocre compared to Got Fish, but closer to where I live and work. Both times I ordered one fish & shrimp dinner with sweet potato jacks at the counter and waited for my meal. Both times my $30 meal order of a simple fish and shrimp dinner with sweet potato jacks didn’t get to the cook, who’s two steps away from the cashier, and I had to wait 45 minutes to an hour. Happening once I understand, but twice? You’re playing with my money and sending a message that you don’t want my business. Message received!!! I. won’t. be. back. Overpriced and underserved! If you miss Moseberth’s liver try these! Delicious and my husband says the same for gizzards! Friendly smiling faces greet you. Menu is extensive seafood too. We we’ll be back! Great taste!
