I have been here twice. Each time service and food was of the highest I have experienced in Tuscaloosa. The drinks are delicious. I took my parents here when they visited and they both agreed the food was phenomenal. We initially planned to go to Avenue Pub but the wait was crazy. We crossed the street to see what else was out there and found this place. I believe Bistro 17 is a cut above Avenue Pub. It also has lots of gluten free options and some vegetarian dishes for those with unique diets. We ordered the meat loaf, Cuban club, and the macaroni balls- so good! I could eat their sweet potato fries EVERY DAY. Thier antique plates are so pretty too!

We went on a Monday evening with no wait. The owner served us and was attentive. He is a believer that people should not have gluten in their diet and let us know that information. My husband is lactose intolerant, so we were thankful that they were able to take the cheese off of his sandwich to accommodate his dairy allergy. When we asked him about the 17 in the business name, he gladly told us the story behind everything. My husband got the Cuban sandwich and I got the veggie kabobs. My food came out luke warm and the veggies were more raw than I expected. I do not like cilantro so I asked for no sauce, but he insisted that I would not taste the cilantro because of the small amount and I should try it. I went ahead and agreed to have it put on the side although I have the gene that does not allow me to enjoy cilantro (tastes like soap) and I knew I would probably taste it right away. I was correct which I was sad about because the veggies by themselves did not have much flavor. The rice that came with it was delicious though. For the amount of food I got, the dish was a little pricey, and I became hungry again an hour later. My husband really enjoyed his sandwich and the sauce that came with his meal. The owner also brought us an appetizer to try and it was pretty good but it was also not very warm. Overall, it was a fun atmosphere and my dish was OK. My husband enjoyed his dish so we will be back and I will try something different next time.

My wife has a very sensitive gluten allergy so we eat at a lot of gluten free places. Long story short. We will be eating here every time we visit Tuscaloosa. The food was VERY good. The service was nice but they were busy. Cozy comfortable vibe.

We had an incredible birthday dinner for our daughter who has Celiac Disease. Everything, from the complimentary risotta, corn balls to the desserts, was delicious. I enjoyed the crab cakes served with mashed potatoes and a spinach salad. My 19 year old ordered bacon wrapped meatloaf on her birthday and was so pleased. Our table also had the burger with fries and chicken fried chicken, both were very tasty. The server was very friendly and made our night extra special by bringing a birthday hat to our table. Thanks for having a safe place for my daughter to eat out at for the next 4 years.

We love Tuscaloosa but with food allergies, we are somewhat limited with meal options. On this trip to town, we discovered Bistro 17 and absolutely love it! The chicken tenders were outstanding – and don’t miss the thin cut house fries! The chicken was great quality and the breading was superb for gluten free (you wouldn’t know if the menu wasn’t labeled). Atmosphere was cozy & modern with the lovely exposed brick wall. The staff was friendly and attentive, as well. Thank you for a safe & delicious meal – we will be back on our future trips to Tuscaloosa!

Finally, we have found a restaurant that has it all! Atmosphere, service, cleanliness, amazing drinks, and, oh yea, the FOOD! The food is absolutely delicious in every way and intriguing at the same time! We had the grilled cheese sandwich with waffle sweet potatoes fries, steak frites with steak fries and mixed veggies, fried pickles, Mac and cheese balls and 2 house drinks. The dinnerware will remind most of family and history which is actually quite nice in todays busy world! So many restaurants fall short of multiple things in my opinion and this one does not!

Enjoyed a gluten free appetizer a meal and a drink. Excellent customer service. I’m not even a meatloaf eater but the bacon wrapped was delicious. I do believe the Crab cakes are my fav.

June 2022: Brand new restaurant on University Blvd! It’s quaint. They have comfort food items with a freshly delicious touch. I ordered the creamed collard greens, meatballs, grilled cheese, and finished off with a cheesecake.

This is one of our favorite restaurants in town! We’ve never had a bad dish. The bartender works magic, chef makes the best sauces for every dish, the service is always top notch, and pretty much the whole menu is gluten free. I really can’t tell you how much I love this place!

I felt comfortable and welcomed the moment I walked in. I was greeted promptly and seated immediately. I had reservations and did arrive a few minutes early. My server was friendly and very attentive. The Hibiscus Royale was a delightful drink created by the bartender. The Steak Frites was incredible! Very flavorful and tender. The marinade was perfect and the steak was grilled to a perfect medium rare. This is definitely my new favorite place to dine.
