Best Mexican restaurant in Rochester! This is by far the best Mexican restaurant around. We’ve tried many and nothing compares to Mecate! We’ve dined in and ordered take out a few times and every time it’s been absolutely delicious! The steak & chicken fajitas are our favorite! The drinks and desserts are just as good! The portion sizes and prices are very good. Service has always been great! We can’t recommend this place enough!

Happened to be passing through Rochester on Cinco de Mayo. We felt based on the reviews that Mecate Mexican restaurant would be a good stop. We arrived right as the clock struck 5p and still had a 45 minute wait. The server was a young man who was very awkward. Apart from that, the food was OK, I guess it’s what passes for Mexican in upstate NY.

Staff was very friendly. Place was clean and looked nice inside. The free chips and salsa were very good. Very extensive menu with numerous options. Food was quick and very hot when it came out. Overall a great experience.

We were looking for a quick meal and this place sparked our interest, I had the fajita quesadilla and my girlfriend had a burrito. The quesadilla was more of a taco filled with chicken/cheese/veggies. It was good but needed to be grilled and cut. Flavor of all the food was great. Salsa was excellent. Service was efficient and correct. Will go back!!

Service was horrible! The receipt say the servers name was Elena but who knows if that her name because we barely saw her. She forgot our straws and napkins . She seem to find socializing with the other waitress more important than her actual job. Food was mediocre at best.

All about Us
Our server Alan was the absolute best server in the world!!! He was so attentive and nice!! He never rushed us and hopefully his tip reflected his service!! I highly recommend dining here!! The bartender was amazing as well! The whole environment was great and everything was clean and tidy. Thank you all so very much for your great service. I feel I needed to mention Alan was also training gary tonight and still did great job!!! I will definitely be returning with friends.

We ate lunch here today and couldn’t believe how bad it was. Salsa tasted like tomato sauce with no flavor or spice. Portions are unbelievably small for lunch. Rice was soaked with the same tomato sauce they gave with the chips. Sorry to say we will not be returning.

I was happy to have an authentic Mexican place in Henrietta but I was less than thrilled with the birrira tacos. The rice was not great either. My friend got the chicken quesadilla and it was watery. Hard to explain but it was like the chicken had too much liquid on it and it was in the quesadilla. The margaritas were good. I probably won’t be back.

Excellent food, prices, and service!! Easily one of the best Mexican restaurants in Rochester. We ordered arroz con pollo, which was flavorful and beautifully plated. It was perfect for a girls night out — we will be back again soon!
