Oh I had high hopes. I bypassed the thai restaurants and crab legs for this. I just knew the beef ribs would be better than Teds, but no, it was Ted’s. The chicken was fried but not really battered pr crispy. The fries had wayyyyyy to much of whatever that seasoning concoction is, and the mac n cheese was disappointing but edible. I threw more than half of it away.

Place has really gone downhill. Went in at noon on a weekday and no one was behind the counter. Ended up going to Mac’s fish & chips instead. Crazy that they have such a good location and name here at the hickory hut, but then don’t seem to staff it. St. Paul’s vibe has also gotten extremely impoverished and it’s sad to see.

Words can’t describe how disappointed I am in this spot. Had high hopes from a lot of people telling me it’s good but the barbecue sauce was watery, the pork rib tips tasted like wash water, and the chicken was dry with a bunch of barbecue sauce dumped on top of it. Also the sides are minuscule. Would not recommend

Just left here hungry for some good, HOT wings. They were luke warm, as if they were heated up cause I didn’t hear NARNE frying of chicken going on …. not hot and fresh as usual. Also the Mac and cheese was disastrous! Thinking it’s the new owners (and I say this cause I didn’t recognize them)…. not truly knowing how to accommodate/satisfy the community. I will not be back as it’s not the same.

I came here because the peach cobbler had such great reviews. I got the Saturday Special chicken sandwich which came with 2 sides. I chose Mac and cheese and fries for my sides. I also got a side of hush puppies and a slice of peach cobbler. The chicken in the sandwich was a little dry, the sauce was good. The Mac and cheese and hush puppies were good as well. Try and I might I could not get into the peach cobbler. I don’t know what everyone else is eating but the cobbler did not live up to the hype.

I went in there to originally get chicken wings. I asked about Monosodium Glutamate being used as an ingredient in the spice mix for the wings. Unfortunately the lady that was helping me could not provide an answer for me even after she attempted to get a hold of the owner. She called the owner and even texted her with no response. I then ordered the butterfly shrimp dinner. The fries were absolutely soggy and gross, the coleslaw was waterery and the shrimp wasn’t much better. This place has really gone down hill

Today the experience was no good. Half Bucket of Rib Tips and it was very hard to chew. You can see in the picture the Rib Tips are very dry. The sauce was very little considering the amount of Rib Tips and I even order an extra small one. I don’t know what happened but this was my favorite BBQ. Don’t be cheap in your sauce and have fresh Rib Tips. This is no good! Time to look for other alternatives…

I regret to give this kind of review to a place I have cherished and have eaten from for a number of years. I am just back from buying a full bucket of Rib tips and whoever those sellers are, all new faces gave me about half a bucket of ribs. I caught it in shop and brought it to their attention and a kid told me that’s how it is sold. I told him I have been coming there for years and was only just recently there. The older fellow gave me a spin that it is done by weight when I showed him the box. He pretending to go weigh it only to return that it is the right weight. Look when I buy rib tips, the box can hardly close. Now the stuff in there is just about hitting mid mark. I was not in the mood to argue, I actually don’t in issues like this. I was the one that drove there… I don’t think I will be returning. My guess is that it might be all new management. It is a pity.

The rib tips were dry and had no seasoning. I had two bits and couldn’t eat any more. I felt sick. The bread had no butter on it, the Mac and cheese was soggy, the only thing that I actually ate where the sliced potatoes. I’d drive over to to south minneapolis and get my BBQ from now on.
