I’ve been here a few times and have never been disappointed. It’s not much to look at from the outside or inside, it’s just really great food. Plenty of parking even when they’re crowded. Lots of great Italian and American deli choices. I’ve ordered ahead the few time I’ve eaten here. My order is always ready when I get there. The staff is very friendly, at times it feels like I’m back in New York. Today I got a meatball Parm grinder. Delicious sauce, seasoned meatballs, and great mozzarella. Very large for a grinder, for the second time I saved half for the next day which is out of character for me. I got my boss a roast beef with tomato and lettuce on a roll. She has eaten all over New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. Her exact words were “Where did you get the sandwich from? It is the best roast beef I’ve ever eaten.” I’m thinking I need to try it the next time I order Cavallo‘s.

If you want a quality sub…this is the place! Supplanted in the middle of a neighborhood, one would not see them on a main street, but there lies its charm. Everyone in Watertown knows exactly where to get an inexpensive italian quality lunch or dinner for the family.

The Meat
What this deli has turned into is a shame. At one time it was a quality place, now shelves are bare and they are short staffed. You will spend your lunch hour getting a sandwich, unless you call ahead (by a bunch).

I have noticed over the past 6 months the quality of food has gone down. Now so has service. The last time I stood for 25 minutes to give my order with only 2 people in front of me. I was not acknowledged! Nothing!! Then to have the owner get a big attitude with I asked if I could pay ahead of time . Only get 45 minutes for lunch break . So needless to say I never got lunch that day. And spent my lunch break driving to and from Carvalhos without a lunch. It’s a shame because you used to be able To get a good sandwich.

Stopped in today to pick up the best Italian cold cut combo in the state and I noticed a mushroom sausage pizza in the case. I wasn’t thinking slice but I had to try it. perfect crust, great slice. the combo is now lunch and dinner.
