This was my first time trying Ghanian food and it was AMAZING! Highly recommended. It was so good I had to go back for a second bowl. Tried the shrimp bowl and the veggie bowl with black eyed peas. They both come with a spicy sauce which was delicious. The owner was very friendly. Will definitely be coming back!

I ordered a pick up from here and it was nicely packaged but also wow the food was so good. I had joloff rice with the black eyed peas stew, fried plantains, and beef. The red sauce that comes with it is so delicious! Perfect compliment to the rest of the meal.

Wow!!! This place left me and my girlfriend speechless. Went to pick up an order from previously trying it earlier from the truck, but this time, I went to the location. Great comforting atmosphere. Food presentation on point. The sauces are different yet familiar, which is best I can explain, but good combined. I had the shrimp by itself. Loved it. Customer service is great with a smile, friendly energy, and my definition of customer service. They went above and beyond with patience in getting an understanding of the order. Food prepared in a timely manner where you are not wondering where your meal is at. It’s definitely a top 5 for me.

Back before the pandemic changed everything, I worked in downtown Portland, and we hit the food carts usually at least once a week. One cart that I enjoyed on a regular basis was Black Star Grill, serving up some delicious Ghanaian food. Imagine my surprise to see it opening a takeout counter just a few blocks from my house. Finally tried it this weekend and was not disappointed. The jollof rice was amazing, as is the black-eyed pea stew, especially with some fried plantains on the side. We’re both vegans, so that’s pretty much the only options, but there are plenty of other choices for meat eaters. Great food, great prices and nice people. Looking forward to eating there again soon.

Four of us shared selections from Black Star Grill last night for dinner and enjoyed everything so much. Shrimp, chicken, beef cooked to perfection. Rice, black-eyed peas, plantains perfect. All delicious and wonderfully seasoned in a way that brought out the flavor of the food. So good! We will be back!

If you haven’t been here, you’re missing out! I was walking in the neighborhood and the food smelled really good from outside so I stopped in. Best decision ever! The staff was friendly and the wait was not long. If I’m ever in town again I will be returning to try more things on the menu.

The location is a bit confusing as a guy not from the area but it’s a nice spot and the house interior honestly just gives off good vibes. The owner has good taste in music (in my opinion) and was super friendly. I had a very pleasant experience here customer service wise. If I had to give a critique it would be that physical menus aren’t super present – but you can find the menu online rather easily. Something to note is that you can see where he does the cooking from the front and it is very clean.

You don’t want to sleep on Black Star Grill. We tried it for the first time last week for the Red Red and wings, and had to go back the next day. Those wings…. PERFECTION! The steak bites and jollof were delicious too. This hit the spot, I was missing my beans and plantains for lunch in Ghana. Next time we gotta get the meat pie and bofroats!
