Update: 2nd visit this summer and tried the Black & Blue Wings (shown in pic). These wings are baked with rub rather than fried and then i chose mild sauce that has the bleu cheese in it. Absolutely delicious. Also shown is the black and blue burger Also fantastic. — Lived in NEPA for years and this was my first visit. Nice bar food menu and great pizza. All the food was terrific. They have a great outdoor patio area with a bar as well as nice indoor seating with a bar as well. Pretty decent draft beer selection too.

Went for lunch on Father’s day and didn’t have to wait for a table at the bar, which was fine because my Dad and brother loved playing the games while waiting for our food. I ordered the turkey wrap and it was gigantic! I asked for everything on it and they sure did! The wrap was grilled to a pleasant crisp so it didn’t get soggy. A large pile of hot fries and a pickle came with it. My Dad ordered a pizza as usual and it was perfectly done. Our bill was reasonable and our waitress was friendly and made sure we were happy. Glad we chose Checkerboard for my disabled Father’s special day. Thank you 🙂

We actually had a graduation party at the pavilion behind which was very nice air-conditioned game room basketball hoops and two horseshoe pits. Just an all-around nice place to have a party. They made the food that was good too

We’ve been there 4-5 times and never order the same thing twice with the exception of the humongous pretzel appetizer. We’ve never been disappointed. The food is amazing, the portions are huge and the prices are so reasonable. Today we were served by Callie who was a sweetheart. If you would offer a vegetarian burger, I’d be even happier! I’m only sorry I didn’t get our previous servers names and didn’t post this sooner. You won’t be disappointed. Especially when you can sit outside!

The Checkerboard Inn Bar and Grill had a large crowd when we arrived on a Friday night around 6:30 p.m. Fortunately, a party had just left, and we were seated in one of about ten booths that lined the two walls of the dining room. The bar was in another room, and I overheard there was no seating remaining. Each booth had a hanging ceiling lamp representing an NFL team (and one that displayed Penn State). Pictures of classic pinball scoreboards were posted above a personal TV set so people can watch cable television while they eat, if they choose to do so.
