We were verbally and physically threatened with a knife (pointed it right in our face) while sitting outside waiting for our orders. While I’m sure the food is decent it’s not worth getting harassed to this level as we did nothing to provoke such behavior. It is nice to provide food to those who need it, but go donate like everyone else. This is not the solution our community needs, providing these extra services during business hours is willfully and knowingly putting their customers lives at risk and they don’t seem to be bothered by it. I was scared at the time and in retrospect it’s upsetting Global Cafe didn’t seem to care or offer an apology for the hostile environment they created.

We’ve been twice and extremely pleased. I’ve had the Huevos Rancheros and another dish with scrambled eggs, chorizo and avocado. Both dishes were really good. It’s a great place, good wait staff and food.

Stumbled across this place I saw a line before they opened and that’s what caught my attention but what made me write this review is seeing how they take care of the local community and taking care of people that most businesses would call the police on. Hands down the worst food in Lawrence run by a manager with a bad attitude to match. The meals I tried were grossly under seasoned and made with low quality ingredients nearing inedible. I was unhappy with my initial meal (the New Mexican Enchiladas which had virtually no cheese, were colder than room temperature, and made with frozen fajita chicken) and had barely touched it so my waitress asked if she could get me something different. I went with the Global Quesadilla which was drowned in a pool of what they claim is “green chile sauce” and I picked around what I could because I was hungry (see the photo of slop attached for reference). When I went to pay, the manager tried to charge me for the meal I sent back in addition to the replacement meal and argued with me about why I felt it was inappropriate to expect a customer to pay for a dish they sent back. She passive aggressively said “I guess I’ll just ring it up as a donation meal” as if I was robbing the homeless for refusing to pay for a meal I didn’t eat. Seriously skip this place if you expect positive customer service and a half decent meal.

Today was my second time eating here. The first time was on a Friday and I specifically went there to try the B&G but of course they don’t serve B&G on Fridays. Therefore, I tried again today, a Saturday. We walked in the door right behind a group of three that were sat immediately and we were told we may need to wait 15 mins for the next table. FORTY FIVE minutes later and seeing at least 8 other people seated in front us, we finally got a table. The waiter seemed unfamiliar with the menu and by the time we were seated, THEY WERE OUT OF B&G!! My entire reason for coming! Anyways, we had lattes, mimosas, a Mexican Scramble and a Hippy burrito. Everything was very mediocre and unseasoned. As far as service and atmosphere, not great. The employees seemed more interested in getting ready for a soccer game and serving their friends than anything else. I won’t be back as there are many other places in town with much better food, service and atmosphere.
