Don Jose’s was established in 1982, in the small fishing town of Homer Alaska. Jose and Carmen Ramos were born in rural farm towns of Mexico. After meeting each other in beautiful sunny California, and falling in love at the tender age of 18, They decided to adventure north to Alaska, in pursuit of adventure and opportunity.
It didn’t take long for Jose and Carmen to miss and crave their food from Mexico. Soon opening a little Mexican cantina to feed the hungry mariners and oil workers of Homer. Don Jose’s is proud to bring to Alaska the rich, fresh, love filled food that Mexico is known for. From out warming hearts, to your warming bellies. We travel all over the United States and finding Mexican food that we really like can be frustrating. This was the best we have had in a long time. Toni(waitress), Edwin(waiter), and Angelo(buser) were very attentive and friendly. The food was brought out in timely fashion and hot. I got the seafood chimichanga. It was full of scallops, crab and prawns. IT WAS HUGE!

First time eating here. The food we ordered was devoured before a picture was even taken lol. We ordered 2 plates each cause we couldn’t make up our minds and everything was hitting the spot and so flavorful. The vibes/environment was A1 as we were here to celebrate Father’s Day. Clean/sanitary and our waitress Vera was on top of our drinks and making sure all was taken care of thanks for a wonderful experience. Will be back again!

Great atmosphere. Loved eating outside. Lots of gluten free options. The food was tasty and the service was great! Have returned twice. We had the taco tray, enchiladas, chimichanga. Better be hungry or bring someone when you come, portions are huge!

My wife and I showed up at 2:50pm on a Saturday unaware that the kitchen didn’t open for another 10 minutes but our host Joe had no problem seating us and taking our drink orders until the kitchen opened. Once the kitchen open Joe immediately found us to take our orders, I had the Chile Verde and my wife had the Spinach Enchiladas and was pleasantly surprised to find they were vegetarian as she doesn’t eat meat. The food was excellent and the service was attentive overall a great dining experience!

On Cinco de Mayo, I took my family into the restaurant and had one of the worst experiences ever. It took the waitress 20 minutes to come to our table once we were seated. She took our drink orders, which included water, but never brought the water to us. She never came back to refill my children’s beverages. We didn’t have silverware or napkins when the food arrived and had to ask the hostess and another young lady who was running food for water, silverware and napkins. The waitress didn’t come back to see if our food tasted OK or to ask if we needed anything. Once we finished eating, we had to ask the hostess for the check because we hadn’t seen the waitress since she took our food order. She eventually came back to the table to give us a check. We DID NOT tip because the service was horrible. BUT when we reviewed our account, we saw that she tipped herself 10%. That’s stealing plain and simple. I will never return to this restaurant!

TONI our server and manager was horrible! She got my order wrong, when runner brought food my hubby’s was only correct plate out of a 4 person table. It was his birthday dinner we were Celebrating Unfortunately this wasn’t the end…an hour and half for everyone to get their correct order. When I asked about my dish, I was dismissed and treated like I didn’t know what I was talking about. TONI didn’t hear anyone’s order correct. When Bill came it was wrong as it has the wrong orders listed. We didn’t hear a Sorry once for any of the mistakes. We will never give this place our business. Stay away! I will be reporting their policies to the State of Ak also.
