Like millions of others during WWII, our family originated from China but escaped to South Korea during the Communist Revolution to avoid slaughter and famine. There, in the refugee camps, Chinese foods were fused together with Korean flavors. It was during this period of time that a whole genre of Korean/Chinese foods were born. I never have a bad time at Mandarin Grill. I’ve been here dozens of times now and the food is always pretty great and portioned well. The service is also generally very attentive and prompt (and sociable) without being overbearing and the prices are more than reasonable.

I went there for the first time last Wednesday night, and I loved everything about it from the food to the service. I had the spicy squid stir fry, Korean style, and for appetizer we ordered the chicken lettuce wrap, and it was so delicious, that we ate it all up. Overall the service and the food was great and awesome, and delicious. I highly recommend this place to anyone, that’s looking for a great Chinese/Korean food.

I ordered a spicy tuna roll and a chicken lo mein for lunch. Now I eat a lot of sushi and asian food, but I will not eat here again. Sushi was bitter and not spicy. Fresh tuna has a much richer flavor and this was stale and not good. The lo mein was more the consistency of soggy spagetti noodles and not the savory flavor that one would expect. It was bland and tasteless. I could only eat one bite. It is terrible when you spend $20 on lunch and leave hungry. Prices are high and the quality is low…way low.

Wonderful, professional, and satisfying in every way. Every meal is flavorful and fresh. The portions are spot on, we always leave feeling full but not in an uncomfortable way. Love their veggies, rice, and honey walnut shrimp! Best Asian restaurant in the Des Moines area. To top it off, the servers are friendly and kind and enjoyable to interact with every time

Great sushi and service! We ordered Dduk bok gi which a sticky Rice cakes in a sweet spicy sauce, the ghost pepper roll, the unicorn roll, fire cracker roll, Field of dreams roll and masago and I think flamethrower roll.. everything was great can’t wait to try more items on the menu.
