I’m not sure about bbq in California. I’m from Memphis where bbq is done rite. Yesterday I had the nachos, which was ok and today I had 1/3 rack of ribs, with slaw and mashed potatoes. I couldn’t eat the slaw, it tasted like plain raw cabbage. The potatoes were good, the ribs were smoked lightly. They had a smoke ring but no smoke flavor. Usually my biggest complaint about ribs is they are over cooked and mushy. That isn’t the case here. They are undercooked and are like Jerky. The people are nice. I will come back and try the burger tomorrow.

This place’s food was not good. I got a 2 meat plate and added 2 spare ribs. I chose pulled pork and tri tip for my meats, then sides were macaroni salad and mashed potatoes… at least the ladies up front were nice to me.

I just stopped in for a snack. Fried pickles and beer and that was really good. Not too much batter and they were golden brown. Definitely coming back.

So nice to find bomb BBQ on our travels with outdoor seating! The Tri Tip is on point, & their sauce is arguably perfect. Would’ve loved some spicier sauce options, but no regrets or complaints whatsoever.

The service we received was horrible, the food wasn’t much better!! I went to the restroom and saw my family’s food sitting there for about 10 minutes before It was brought out to us cold!! I ordered the pulled pork and it was soggy and didn’t taste fresh at all. Upon ordering I requested for a dinner roll, The server told me they didn’t have any and that my only option was corn bread that was tiny, flat and hard! I realized I couldn’t eat my pulled pork without some type of bread and requested if I can buy some sort of bread and then the server said “oh now we have dinner rolls”. What a joke of a place. My first and last time! They need to start off with getting better servers with better attitudes!

Champs is probably the worst BBQ restaurant in Bakersfield! My daughter’s mother ordered the pulled pork and literally got food poisoning but not just the food was bad, the service was horrible. Our waitress seemed like she was annoyed, didn’t bring us silver until I asked for it and I ordered a dr pepper and she brought me a pepsi. If you’re visiting bakersfield stay away from Champs and if you want some great BBQ try out Primetime. Excellent food and service!!

The food is a little bit hard to save. Fix but good service. Overall, a lettuce was brown, and no one seemed to know where my drink was at.

First and probably last time there. The food in the restaurant was ok. The chicken wrap was blah. The chili dog and fries were good. Order a to go order of hot links and pitbeef. Got tri tip and Pit beef. NO Hot links. Do not like tri tip and it wasn’t good. Pit beef looked like ground up gray hamburger. I have never had Pit beef like that. It was not appetizing. You get 1 tiny cornbread. Looks like a very flat cupcake. Didn’t taste good either. Called to find out what we got for meat since it was not what we ordered. They explained but did not apologize or offer to fix the order. VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE.
