The folks at Black Powder consistently impress. We’ve been fans since they first opened in Jamestown. A varied menu of different styles of BBQ, all done as it should be. Brisket is amazing, burnt ends, burgers, house made sausage links and more. Sides are complimentary and well done as well. Don’t skip the Gouda Mac and cheese or greens. They offer bulk orders, carry out, or dine in options. It isn’t cheap, but it is a fantastic value for the quality of what you get.

I’ve been a competitive BBQ pitmaster for 13 years, own several smokers, and visit every BBQ restaurant I can when it travel. So I was excited to learn Black Powder was coming to Asheboro. I’ve visited twice; both visits were great. They create a tenderness and flavor profile that is hard to duplicate in a commercial kitchen setting. Their strength is the brisket, and surprisingly the smoked turkey (normally dry at other restaurants, but not here). Although the brisket was cut “with the grain” during my second visit (as opposed to being cut “across the grain”) it was still tender and flavorful. The pork is very good too but stay away from the Piedmont sauce….no one in our family likes it (too peppery/off flavor) but the House Sauce, whoa! It’s unbelievably awesome. Probably one of the best sweet sauces I’ve ever tasted.

This place is phenomenal! Their pulled pork bbq has a delicious flavor that goes great with their house sauce. Their brisket is the best hands down. Seriously, the food is so good you’ll want to slap yo mama (mothers enter at your own risk). The staff is helpful and friendly making you feel at home. If you want a great dining experience that leaves you satisfied but still wanting more then get in the car and get yourself to Black Powder Smokehouse in Asheboro!

Wow, that was all delicious. I got 1/2 pound of brisket, a jalapeno sausage link, smoked gouda mac-and-cheese, and green beans. My wife got the burnt ends, smoked gouda mac-and-cheese, and collard greens. Every bit of it tasted fantastic. We’ll be going back for sure.

I ordered brisket, turkey and ribs. For my sides, I ordered bbq beans and green beans. I also tried all 4 sauces they offered. The brisket and turkey were fantastic, they had very good flavors and not dry. The ribs however, were very dry and didn’t have much flavor going for them at all. My green beans were delicious. But the bbq beans were more like a bowl of chili and not an a actual side of beans. The beans were good don’t get me wrong but they were also very, very spicy (hot) and I like hot things. I was very surprised by how spicy the beans were with no warning at all. I would suggest making a milder bbq bean especially for this area. No way could I enjoy eating all of the beans at that spicy hot temperature. Of the 4 sauces they have I would recommend the house sauce. The house sauce had good flavor and doesn’t over power the meat with spice. Overall, the food and atmosphere were good. I would recommend it and I will come back and try it again. Hopefully, next time the ribs won’t be dry and the beans won’t be very spicy hot or they offer a milder bbq bean next time.

Very clean and nice helpful staff. This was the first visit and they were so helpful on what was good and/or popular picks. I got the smoked turkey with side of the Mac & cheese and collards. So good! The mop was my favorite sauce and second favorite has to be the dip. Will come back again!
