I never really tried many Chinese restaurants before but it’s safe to say that this place has a really good technique in preparing Chinese dishes without them being oily. That just make every Chinese dish better. The drinks were delicious and the foods are reasonably pricy.

I recently visited Astoria DC and was blown away by the experience. The decor was absolutely stunning, with a perfect blend of modern and classic design elements. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the staff were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about the menu.

The hostess was extremely friendly. We were seated at the end of the bar. Our drink orders were taken promptly. Our water glasses were refilled regularly which I appreciate. The food is OK. The Walnut shrimp was the best and was very flavorful. I wish I could say the same about the chimichurri beef. The meat was tough. The Basil eggplant was very very salty. When asked if I wanted a box for the chinichurri beef (we each only had one slice and both of us found it inedible), I mentioned that it was really tough, not very good, etc. in a polite way. Instead of offering another dish or taking it off our bill, the server simply said “oh ok” and cleared it away. Price point in this restaurant is pretty high considering the portion sizes. It wasn’t all bad, but I won’t be back.

INTERESTING. I will typically only write a review with 4 or more stars as I do not want to hurt anyone’s business. I am making an exception here. We had a reservation so no issues on the wait time. All 5 cocktails we ordered were outstanding – definitely be sure to try any of these. I speak Mandarin and spent 5 years living and working in Taiwan and China +25 years ago, have travelled and eaten in more small restaurants than I can count. The food flavors were wonderful. BEST dish on the menu was the Basil Eggplant with great taste and texture. Just the right amount of szechuan peppercorns for flavor but not too much to overpower. The La Zi Ji – Spicy Chicken dish was as expected chunks of chicken on the bone which contributes to the flavor but you have to be good with chopsticks and OK chomping around the bones then spitting them out. Fair amount of skin fat which is again typical of this dish. The mapo dofu was ok, I like my tofu just a little more firm in this dish but flavors were good.

came here around 6:30/7ish on a Friday night after getting happy hour in the area and got super lucky with bar seating by the window. pretty much all parties that showed up afterwards without a reservation were waiting outside for a while. however, there were only two servers and a hostess for the whole place (indoor and outdoor seating) and my partner and I were completely neglected. the hostess had to take our order and we were waiting quite a long time to flag a waiter to get our bill. would definitely reccomend getting a reservation if coming here to get a table with an assigned waiter.

The food here is excellent, I loved the impossible mapo tofu. The tofu was tender and creamy and the slow Sichuan pepper burn was perfect. OG Lazi chicken is a unique, tasty dry stir-fried dish-very spicy. The basil eggplant was one of the best eggplant dishes I’ve ever had. Service is meh- it started out attentive, but they were short staffed or under staffed and when the restaurant got full, service suffered. Cocktails are pricey but well crafted and generous.

I would definitely recommend this resturant in DC. I was here with a group of family members and friends and we had a great time. The employees were helpful, attentive and very pleasant. The theme of the restaurant was very inviting. The music was definitely enjoyable. The food was amazing, and some was very spicy. 🙂 The drinks are very tasty. Sharing the plates family style is definitely the way to go. The flavors are also authentic and worthwhile to try. I would recommend this place and I would definitely be back.

The food and vibe were both really good. The location is pretty small and they don’t seem to take reservations between 5-9pm, so if plan accordingly.
