SHELTER is an Open-Air Dining Experience with a full service cocktail lounge, bar and restaurant in the heart of Downtown Encinitas. SHELTER features a unique and eclectic style with a retractable ceiling that allows the air to flow freely and the moon and stars to illuminate the ultra-comfortable elevated and comfy booths. There is also an open-air patio area featuring a large fire pit. SHELTER offers a wide array of menu items and specialty cocktails with everything from Mules in copper mugs to VIP Bottle Service in a private booth. To accentuate the experience, we have installed a state of the art audio and video system to feature our select DJ’s and performers.

Everything is great except the bouncer named “Naan” or “Nahn” (I’m pretty sure I heard that he is the manager… which is absolutely ridiculous hence all of the reviews I’ve seen). They must not care because they know people will come anyway. My legal best friend from Canada was visiting and had her ID + multiple second forms of identity verification and he wouldn’t accept it. Soon after he had a physical altercation with another man in line. He was extremely rude and condescending to everyone. Eventually she was able to find a picture of her passport and she was let in but the situation this bouncer put us in was extremely unfair and unnecessary. He was power tripping and had no reason not to let her in. There was a second bouncer with him who did absolutely nothing but watch. Educate your bouncers on foreign ID’s and how to treat people. I never write reviews but the situation we experienced was absurd and something we have never seen before.

The rudest management any bar/restaurant I have ever been to. Bouncers also cannot do their jobs. If you’re of age, be prepared to be turned away. If all of the bouncers & management at SHELTER can’t recognize real IDs from fake IDs, get anothet job. Or get this place an ID scanner. Ridiculous. First time in California, would never return here.

Most horrible experience. They tried to ruin our bachelorette party night with very aggressive bouncers who man handled the Bride a few weeks after her neck surgery. Can’t believe this place is still in business ew. Don’t bother going here. Go to 1st street bar instead.
