Authentic and delicious. An absolute must to try if you’re in the Norfolk area, this place was the highlight of my trip here! Service was incredible, and the food was superb. I heartily recommend the goulash (any variation) and the escargot. The roast duckling was also delicious, with plenty to bring home! It was my first time having this kind of food and the lovely waitress took the time to explain to us what the dishes consist of and how to eat them. Couldn’t have had a better experience, will definitely come back the next time I’m in town!

Walked by this interesting restaurant facade on Granby st and was welcomed by a hostess outside. Looking for something unique, I went in and discovered a wonderfully European atmosphere. The owners are chef’s from the Czech Republic, all dishes are homemade and mine were wonderful… I told my waitress that I wanted something unique, and she recommended the potato and leek soup, followed by Serbian goulash.

Went to the Monastery Restaurant on Friday evening with the wife. It was very nice there. The atmosphere and waiter were great. The owener/chef came out and greeted us and spoke about the food. I had the stuffed cabbage, and wife had the Cordon bleu chicken. Both were nice to eat. This will be a restaurant that we will make another trip to.

I can’t believe this is my 1st time @ the Monastery! Our server BRIE was amazing. Introduced me to a cocktail John made to satisfy my lightweight, sweet leaning drink request, with a tasty Relaxer! She also made great recommendations that were cooked to perfection, so full of flavor: the house-made dressing for the appetizer House Salad, the deliciously flavored Escargot the main courses: Serbian Goulash and the Hungarian Gypsy Pork Cutlet! Both excellent!! Lastly, the Blueberry Fruit Dumpling was sooo good!

We were fortunate enough to be one of the last walk in’s seated. The ambiance of the restaurant is intimate, beautiful, and irreplaceable. We were treated to a lovely dinner, the goulash was fork tender and delectable, the beer selection while limited was complimentary and smartly selected for the menu. The owners were present and spoke with several tables including areas. The hostess (which I believe it is a husband wife couple who own/operate) was delightful.

Such a great experience. The food and the atmosphere was amazing. I was scraping the plate of my goulash because it was so delicious. Highly recommended to anyone.

Definitely a go-to if you want a unique dining experience and cuisine (central/northern European) that you don’t get everyday. The co-owner seems to be very present in her restaraunt and personally came to check on her table. She takes great pride in her business, and that comes out in the food. Our main courses (filet and schnitzel) were solid. The schnitzel would have benefited from a crisper breading and a bit more flavor. The true highlights came from the cheese and bread appetizer and the dumpling dessert. Service was great, and the ambience feels higher class than most other fine dining joints in the area (yet always felt homey).

So delicious. Definitely worth a try. Lovely atmosphere and the waitresses are so friendly. Step outside your comfort zone and give it a try. You won’t be disappointed. I had the salmon and I’m not sure what husband had but it came in it’s own pot lol.

Fabulous high-class dining experience here. The service was phenomenal, the atmosphere gorgeous yet cozy. I had a half-plate of the Escargot (tastes similar to mussels, if you’ve never had them before), the Tomato & Feta Salad (a cold, simple dish, but incredibly well seasoned), the Apricot Palačinki (crepes filled with apricot jam), and the Blackberry Pierogi (soft dumpling stuffed with sweet blackberries and topped with tangy cottage cheese and sugar; absolutely excellent) – companion had the Steak Tartare and Apple Strudel. We were provided complimentary bread with soft and hard cheeses – as well as an apple – to pair it with. All of it was absolutely delicious, and obviously made of quality ingredients (demanding it, even – can’t imagine how a steak tartare is made with low quality meat). According to our server, the owners themselves were cooking our food, which is just amazing – from what I saw, they actually came out to speak with a table celebrating a birthday, and seemed incredibly kind. Food took around <10-15 minutes to hit our table after ordering. Beer and cocktail menu is limited - they only had about four beers (all imported, I believe) and a nonexistent cocktail menu (server explained she could make most classic cocktails) - but their wine list is extensive. As noted above, the interior is gorgeous (brickwork, stucco, rich textures, old mirrors, paintings, faux flowers, chandeliers, candles), but it's also very dim, so bring your glasses if you've got issues reading in limited lighting! Only hiccup for my friend and I was the entry point - the door you walk in leads straight into the dining room, and if staff isn't there to greet you, you're left wondering if you walked into the right point and if you're supposed to just seat yourself; I imagine they have a staff member managing all this on days they're actually busy, though - we came on a slow, low staff day that was apparently oddly high volume. All in all, this was a luxurious dining experience well worth the price we paid for it!
