The other day I got, Pit Stop Barbeque & Restaurant, for lunch. I ordered their small Jerk Pork w/ Rice & Beans, and Cabbage, with a side of Mac n Cheese. Their Jerk Pork was terrific! Nice portion sizes, great flavor, the sauce used to top the Jerk Pork, and the pork had an excellent meat to fat ratio. The rice was very fresh and had great flavor as well too. The cabbage was very home-y and was an excellent compliment to the meal. The Mac n Cheese was not so tantalizing though. The cheese used was very good, but the noodles, and overall flavor was not good at all. It tastes like plain baked noodles with a layer of cheese added on top. The staff was very kind and patient. The lady who took my order was extremely nice. All in all, I’d absolutely be trying, Pit Stop Barbecue & Restaurant, again. And I would also highly recommend this place if you’re in the Orange/East Orange area. Just stay away from the Mac n Cheese if you’re a Mac lover.

Everything says this place is worth making a detour meaning anytime you are near or in around Essex County, NJ stop by the Pit Stop for their Jerk Chicken. Don’t be intimidated by the outside, this place has some delicious food inside. You won’t be disappointed. $$$

Stopped in to get me some jerk chicken and pork. When I first walked in there was no waiting. I greeted the lady by the small window, saying “hello” but she acted like she never wanted to answer. Her attitude was not welcoming. The jerk chicken was cold and the rice swimming in cabbage water and gravy. I told them not to put any gravy on the food and they did on both dinner.

The jerk chicken was cold… the lady asked me if I wanted her to heat it up in the microwave that was right in front of me… there were only women working in there and all of them were rude. customer service is nonexistent, if you are a woman, especially if you’re not, Caribbean, …they treat the men differently. (Better)

I love the cabbage, I always get some extra. It’s a little bit of a drive, but worth it. They move pretty quickly so parking isn’t usually an issue .. To ensure you get the best I would suggest you go early..

I’ve been eating here for over 20 years. There aren’t many dishes, but what they offer is stellar. If you get the jerk pork when they just finish it, you will be pleasantly surprised. High turn over rate means you’ll pretty much always get fresh food. I’ll continue to eat from there unless I go vegan or something.
