The Black Khaisab is a soft, black date, originally from the area of the modern-day United Arab Emirates. In its native homeland, it is often consumed in the Khalal stage – that is while it is still hard and crisp before it begins to ripen and soften. In this stage, it is quite sweet and slightly astringent with a striking red color. In the U. Yum! Really excellent quality dates and SO many options to choose from! You can get a sampler (which I highly recommend, 6 varieties is the best) so you can try multiple types. If you have never had a barhi date, they are like natures caramel.

We drove 30 miles out of Palm Springs for fresh organic dates and were not disappointed. It’s literally an oasis in the middle of farms. You pull in and there is a large grassy area surrounded by tall (taller than orchard trees behind) palm trees with picnic tables. The warm breeze was blowing and sporadic clouds were moving by quickly overhead. Even the roar of cars on the highway was oddly pleasing as we sat and enjoyed our yummy date shake.

Easy access parking, no waiting, comfortable seating, well lit dining room, friendly staff. A variety of date products and date related foods and breads and actual date fruit in various forms for sale including jellies, jams and preserves. As date shake shacks go, this one is a nice, no-frill, in and out kinda place. Two regular date shakes cost just over $12.

Some of the best dates around! And if you want a treat try the Rhutab medjools, just maybe don’t have them ship these in the heat of the summer (I did that once and it was a sticky mess to unpack, but the dates were fine)
