Being the first timer, we tried their lunch menu. We ordered the French onion soup, the duck confit salad and a bowl of Mussels with fries. The onion soup is exactly the French type my wife love, not the American style which usually tends to be quite salty (personal preference!!). The duck confit salad is very delicious, it comes with the duck meat and the turkey bacon, I wish the duck meat could be a little more, but overall good balance between salad, meat and dressing. The mussels is also very tasty, dipping the fries in the mussels soup gives another nice taste of fries. The chef said the ketchup is the French type, it does taste a little different and little better, I would say. I wish the mussels dish could have added a little more butter, but again, personal preference.

Great French food and wine. We had French Onion Soup and were very impressed with the depth of flavor and presentation. This meal transported us back to a time of lazy summer luncheons in Paris. We sat outside on the street-side patio shaded by a large umbrella. Our meal was served with a warm baguette and butter. The wine was recommended by our host. It paired perfectly with the rich broth and crunchy toast overflowing with melted cheese. This is a good place to meet friends of lunch. It is California casual with a friendly vibe.

Had a terrible experience – one of the worst and I have been to many restaurants. My husband took me for my birthday. We had a reservation so they seated us quickly but took over 30 min to just get us a drink. We ordered a glass of wine, bottle of wine, salad and two main courses so we were good customers. After we were seated a young college couple came in and finished their meal before we got our first course and they had the same server. We talked to the main woman and told we unhappy with the extremely slow service and she said sorry but didn’t do anything to fix it. The owner even came by at some point and my husband talked to him in French explaining our bad service and they didn’t do anything. I realize there are some problems that occur but then the restaurant does something like a comp drink or salad to make an effort. We got nothing despite the fact that the couple next to us got free wine because they knew the owner. About a week later I went back because there were no other options and the woman greeted me saying that I had bad service last time but still didn’t offer anything. I have never been back.

Second time here. Started with the Goat Cheese Salad. Very good. The toast with goat cheese and honey is delicious. I had the Steak Poivre and Frites. Very very good. My girlfriend had the Coq Au Vin. Also very good. Splurged (for us) on a 2016 Château Kirwan. Excellent. We sat outside in the back. It’s a lovely setting.

I could not wait to try this lovely French restaurant, Chez Philippe, I had heard so many good things about it. I wanted take out, and that generally is not an option, yet, but they did not hesitate to let me do just that. I ordered the Croque- Monsieur. While I was waiting, Philippe himself came to talk to me about his fabulous onion soup, and that it was so popular he had to start making it in a much larger soup pan. So I thought, the next time I come to dine in, I will be ordering that. It smelled heavenly in their cozy, very comfortable restaurant. I felt at home while waiting. They have a little cupboard area where you may purchase some wonderful delectables. I could not wait to try my sandwich. My wait was very short and off I went with my delicious sandwich. It smelled so good, I had to have a nibble right in my car. That first bite was beyond incredible. So many taste sensations were going on in my mouth and I just could not stop. The cheese was thick and melty, the bread, toasted perfectly, and the ham and bechamel sauce blended together beautifully. This is a very enticing sandwich, calling out to you to eat more, so I did. It comes with wonderfully seasoned french fries and a bit of butter leaf salad with a very tangy mustard vinaigrette. I simply cannot wait to go back, sit down in that gorgeous restaurant, have some of that famous onion soup and perhaps a glass of Chardonnay. Sante !!!

What a fabulous addition to downtown Los Gatos ! My friend and I came last minute with our babies for a little weekday outing and the host was so flexible and set us up with a perfect table on their patio. Felt as though we were transported to a divine French cafe ! Food was fresh and delicious. Service was excellent as well, very attentive. Coming back for a date night but equally wonderful for a casual lunch with friends or business lunch.

Philippe delivers French cuisine with integrity, authentic and delectable. The cassoulet was brilliant, more flavorful than what I’ve had in reputable bistros in Paris. The Tarte Tatin was “sublime”! We like the back patio, away from the bustle of Santa Cruz Avenue.

Great place. Simple, classic French dishes, done perfectly. Unpretentious and friendly. I’ve had Moules Marinieres and Cassoulet, both just right.
