I’m not gonna lie, since the change of the new owners years ago, anyone who knew the old Nelly’s ; it was different. The food wasn’t as tasteful, rice wasn’t as fresh, portions of meat become less and the prices went up. This was a favorite food spot of mine that quickly time and time after coming back started to decline. Needless to say, I always come back in hopes of a different outcome. Going in yesterday I’ve had the best meal from there in a while. The pork shoulder had wonderful flavor, the beans weren’t over salted and seasoned. I am so impressed with this location as it’s always been my favorite one. Will be back again. Lady helping me was also a sweetheart.

The steak and onions, oxtail, and beef stew are all very tasty. The only problem I have is that they use way too much salt in everything. With all the flavorings that are used, all the salt isn’t needed. All dishes come with rice and beans. The service is good as well.

Went to a friend’s birthday party who purchased food from here. Was amazed at how delicious the empanadas were!Perfect crust and filled with delicious meat. I tried the chicken and beef and both were on point! Immediately brought me back to childhood. It’s been a long time since I had empanadas like this. I will for sure be going here. Online shows the price per empanada at $2.50 and my friend said they paid $3.50 each. Still a good deal but you may want to verify price changes before ordering large quantities. They were the first thing to go. Didn’t get a chance to try anything else but my husband enjoyed the rice and beans and a few other things.

This Nelly’s is not affiliated with the one on Main St in City of Poughkeepsie or the Newburgh one on Plank Rd. It is the same owner as the New Paltz location. There is usually two ppl here, one in kitchen and one serving. The steam table is clean and shielded with glass. The service isn’t the friendliest. The food is kinda bland and sometimes too salty. The rice needs more seasonings, and all the protein needs less salt. The pasteles were extremely bland. She did make me fresh maduros (sweet plantains) though. The cooler that holds the drinks is on the highest temperature so all the drinks were frozen. I stopped elsewhere for my drink. A small tin is $10. You get your choice of bland rice with one meat (ox tails, goat, chicken, steak, or pernil). Bananas are extra. Rice has no olives, potatoes, or salsicha. It’s either white rice or yellow rice with gandules. No yuca either. They also participate in GrubHub. Definitely not the flavors of a Puerto Rican cuchifrito.

Nelly’s was excellent. I had the steak over rice and the meat just melted in my mouth! I would recommend this spot and the one on Main St. I have eaten at both and never had a bad meal !!

This was my first time going to this restaurant and being able to dine in. The food offerings were plentiful, and a good selection of foods, beverages and desserts. The person behind the counter was courteous and friendly, and by the time I was getting ready to leave I could see she could handle a challenging customer very well. The rice and beans and carne guisado were super delicioso!! I look forward to returning the next time I visit this part of Poughkeepsie, NY.

The Mofongo will take you right back to La Romana as if you were right there, hanging out eating out of a well seasoned abuela’s kitchen. You have to understand, in a land of delicious abuela cooking, you have to be *that* abuela in the neighborhood that everyone wants to be invited to 2nd thanksgiving dinner. You know, the first one be at home and then you pack all the desserts and go over to the friends? The most delicious to go plates in the neighborhood? Yes this is that for Poughkeepsie Dominicans. Thanks Nelly. Dine in for the authentico.
