Great experience in a cute town. As tourists, we chose this place while exploring the town and after seeing the mining museum. It had a cute charm to match the surrounding town. Food tasted fresh and customer service was superb. However as a Texan used to Tex-Mex dining, I have become accustomed to a heavier hand on the seasoning. Needed a bit of flavor.

It’s a Monday, most places in Lead and the surrounding areas are closed Mondays. I was looking for a small local hole in the wall place to eat. Found El Jefes and wasn’t disappointed. The atmosphere was good, staff was friendly, bathrooms were clean and the food was delicious. I had the 3 enchilada special with all three sauces and my husband had the smothered burrito. Would recommend checking this small local Lead business out before eating at the generic, find it every where sandwich shop next to it!

There is not much fresh about this place. Canned pre made powdered type “queso” much like the kind bought in a jar. I have had lots of real cheese queso in my life- this isn’t it.Tangy guac like the pre-made kind you buy at the store that’s preserved with lots of citrus- tangy and you can’t taste the avocado. Bagged store bought corn tortillas. Salsa also didn’t taste fresh. Rice seemed premade and reheated. Beans and carnitas was not terrible.. but portions were beyond skimpy. Had to ask for more just to fill the stale “bowls” for the dips. No limes for the beer. Avoid. Go somewhere else. The subway next door probably fresher than this.

Best Muchos Nachos ever! They were a flavor explosion of fresh ingredients, and HUGE! I thought he was done loading my plate after the first layer- not even close! The ginger sesame slaw was a fun twist on the nachos- yum! I was waiting for Guy Feiri to show up and dig in!

Great vegetarian options! The veggie burrito bowl was not very spicy. If you like heat, maybe ask to add a hotter salsa. It is served with pico de gallo. Quiet atmosphere, there were not a lot of people when I was there.

This place makes awesome fish burritos ! The service was swift and pleasant. The prices were reasonable. My family and I left full and happy! It’s simple but true, El Jefe has it going on.

This place is so good. I heard multiple people say “wow, smells good” when they walked in the restaurant and it’s clear locals love it. It’s Tex-Mex done well.

I really like this restaurant! I’ve always enjoyed the queso-smothered burrito. The tacos are really good, too, and not dry like a lot of places tend to serve their tacos. All of the meat is good. Lots of salsa options. Service is friendly, and we appreciate how they worked with us on a mischarge. Highly recommend!

Vegetarian options prominently and proudly displayed in big font on the menu boards. Ordered the veggie nachos: price was reasonable and portion was large.
