Have you ever invited a group to go check out a new place and felt bad that you were the one who made the suggestion? That was me today.

OMG! The reviews were right! The crawfish was flavorful. We tried both the garlic butter and southsaigon mix. They have a deal: buy 5 lbs. for $30. We also ordered shrimp like mein, shrimp pasta, and mango habanero chicken wings (not pictured). This is now one of my favorite crawfish place. We’ll be back to try the other menu items.

I recently got a chance to sample their cuisine at a board meeting. It was to go but still tasted delicious. I got the shrimp and pasta. Everything was perfect. The shrimp were jumbo and the sauce that came with the pasta was rich and creamy.

Went to south x saigon the other night. Found out no more snails! Boo. Had the crawfish (small/medium) with southside sauce, southside fries, frog legs, and a frozen hypnotic. Service was fast and friendly. Loved the frog legs. Crispy and fall off the bone. Great taste. Southside fries were good too. Southside sauce for crawfish is really good and full of yummy goodness. The caveat is it’s so good they charge $1 extra per 1lb for the sauce. Didn’t find this out until we got our check and they ran our cc. I asked about the southside $5 charge. When I asked about it the response was “oh he didnt tell you about it?” No girl, no he di’int ‍♀️ ‍♀️ lol. And it’s not listed as an upcharge anywhere on the menu. Anyways paid the bill as it was but fyi the special sauce is extra, people.

We had a party of 6 and were the only table until the restaurant closed. We have seen multiple reviews about it and decided to finally try this place out. The staff were amazing and were always around and helpful. We did noticed that the food was coming out of the kitchen very slow for being the only customers during that time frame. Hush puppy were not memorable. Egg rolls were a huge let down. It was crispy on the outside but lack any flavor on the filling. Chicken wings needed more flavor. We did half lemon pepper and half mango habanero (it was not spicy at all). The shrimp pasta was super bland. We took a few bites and took it Togo so l can fix the flavoring at home. We ordered 5 lbs of spicy crawfish and the staff did mention that crawfish is out of season that we took into consideration but these were tiny baby crawfish with a few medium size mixed. It seems that the crawfish was not soaked long enough because it was bland. The part that makes be puzzled is that we ordered spicy but it was not spicy or any flavor on the crawfish but they did use a lot of msg in their seasoning. Msg is used as a flavor enhancer and can make you very thirsty. My friend ordered the Diablo flavor crawfish and it was not spicy at all. I would not recommend this place because there are other crawfish restaurants that are around the area that is better. Hope you guys can fix the seasoning issues.

I can see this place expanding in the future! Everything I had was excellent. Hush puppies are on the sweeter side almost like beignets. Fries are a must. I got south side signature for the crawfish flavor, it had lots of garlic and onion fragrance which I love. The medium spice level had a good kick, actually had me sniffling a bit lol. If you haven’t tried South by Saigon yet, what are you doingggg??

I enjoyed their crawfish special. 5 lbs for $30. I had the mix sauce with garlic butter and dry rub and level 3 heat. All off the crawfish was nice size and no bad ones. I will definitely be back!!!

This place is a hidden gem. We found out about it via Houston Restaurant Weeks. We went tonight for my birthday. The food is delicious. Everything we tried was well seasoned, freshly prepared and delicious! The waitress was friendly and helpful and Chef Skip is very hands on and super friendly. He came out to help the waitress and explained the various dishes to us. Every single dish was good! I highly recommend this place. It’s small but they accommodated our large party. We did have a reservation.

Two places recommended by the Facebook Groups Chowdown in Chinatown Houston and Houston Chowhounds: South by Saigon and Mo City crawfish turned out to be SO enjoyable. I loved both places a lot. Get the Mo City sauce and at Saigon, go for their mix sauce. Medium spice both places was my choice. Photos below from Saigon today.
