In The Black Hawk Hotel’s 168th year, we are proud to add to our legacy with Carter House Market & Café, paying homage to the hotel’s Carter House era of the late 1800s (right after the Winslow House era).
Carter House is a neighborhood market & café that has the same commitment to local, fresh food and Midwestern hospitality that you’ve come to know us for. Our deli counter will serve takeout-friendly sandwiches, salads, entrees, and fresh pressed juice, and our market shelves will be stocked with the same local ingredients, plus pantry staples, house baked breads, and entertaining-friendly charcuterie boards, wine and beer.

The food tasted really fresh and I was happy with the portions, but there is one major problem I had with my sandwich. When eating my sandwich (Carter House Sub), just about the only thing I could taste was the bread. I would reccomend moving the top piece of bread off to the side, cutting the sandwich in half, and folding it in half to improve the bread to filling ratio.

So happy to have a fresh and delicious take out option downtown. Their sandwich is so big I couldn’t eat it in one sitting and this isn’t just some sub sandwich… this thing is legit! Love the fresh bread and delicious pasta options as well. Prices vary and can get fairly premium, but portions are huge and quality is absolute top notch. The shop also has great options and finally there’s a place downtown to buy a bottle of wine to take home! Very happy with my first experience, will come back again!

Stumbled across this little gem by accident, but it will now certainly be a frequent stop. The Chef was so friendly and very passionate about his food. We tasted as much as we could from the menu and everything was delicious. Definitely recommend!

A new restaurant in Cedar Falls. Tried the toasted ham sandwich and the caprese salad, both were excellent! The staff was very friendly and welcoming. We also found several pantry items for later.
