Nice well known, well established restaurant that has been open since 1952. The food was very good and the staff was friendly and efficient. Definitely try the Wooden Nickel if you are in the area and in search of a local, non restaurant chain place to dine.

Yesterday was my first time going to Wooden Nickel after passing this restaurant for over a year. I made a reservation because it was my husband’s birthday and I wanted to do something special for him.

Was very excited to attend a party at the Wooden Nickel. The staff was very attentive and helpful at first but then disappeared after the food was served and they only refilled water glasses once. But my biggest disappointment and concern was the carpet in the party room which was sticky and black. My new sandals are now completely black on the bottom. Ho much does it cost to rent a steamer? Better yet rip it up and replace with a washable surface. If this floor was that disgusting, what is the kitchen like? The food was fine, the beef was cooked a nice medium rare but was cool barely even warm, the green beans were more blanched than steamed and no one at our table ate them all. The fish was very good cooked perfectly and hot. No one at my table had the chicken. The italian dressing was very good. Not sure if homemade. The parking lot was very dark. There were under the eaves lights for the sidewalk but not beyond. The restroom was clean. Glad I got to eat there on someone else’s dime. But I would not go there on my own.

The Wooden Nickel serves cheesecake that is so much like the Junior Cheesecake from Brooklyn, NY, that I used to get from Drew’s in Forest Hills. It was a perfect place to celebrate my daughter’s birthday like we usually do at The Lot in Oakmont. Great establishment!

The goal was to celebrate my birthday and my daughter’s birthday along with another win. Our experience fell flat. The service was ok the food was not good. (Don’t be deceived by the picture)

Simply excellent establishment. My husband and I have been here twice for our anniversary, the French onion soup is top notch and the entrees are Vegas-level quality for incredibly modest prices. I had crab with angel hair, and the meatloaf last time, both wonderful. My husband had the chicken parmesan the first visit and then the steak hoagie the other day, no complaints whatsoever. Staff are very friendly as well, I can’t remember our waitress’s name from our first visit but when she found out it was our anniversary she bought us champagne. Highly recommend!

Had the best time at this Italian restaurant. I was very impressed with the speedy service, and delicious food. The staff was so friendly, and treated my family and I as family as well. I would definitely go back and recommend this hidden gem to anyone.

We held my daughters bridal shower here and everything was amazing from start to finish. The staff was wonderful and the food was out of this world! The room was roomy and everyone had a great time. Thank you Wooden Nickel, you made this a perfect event.

We met some friends here for dinner that we haven’t seen in a long time. We wanted to meet somewhere nice. Overall the place is nice. I was disappointed that the gift certs we had were not accepted because “they were too old”. We all had some wine and dinner. The waitress did not seem to know anything about their wines. The food was okay but certainly I question whether it was worth $200+ for four people. My steak was cooked to order but it lacked any real flavor. Nothing was bad but it wasn’t good enough to justify the cost. We won’t be going back any time soon.
