You know those restaurants where you can go in and get treated like family? That is Maria’s Buena Cocina, every time. You will never be disappointed. Maria herself comes from the heart of Mexico, from a mother who really knew how to cook. I’m originally from Texas, and I know amazing Mexican food. Order the potato tacos. You won’t be disappointed. Her homemade molé is OUT OF THIS WORLD. Their Mexican rice and refried beans are unmatched. Their guacamole is enough to turn around even the worst day, and I dream about the complimentary salsa they provide every night! Every food touched by this good-hearted, authentic Mexican couple who owns the place turns to pure gold, and I can’t imagine anyone walking out dissatisfied.

Was visiting somebody who chose this restaurant. It ended up being a good place to eat for lunch. The tamales were quite good though I wish there had been a little more sauce with them. The prices were reasonable. I love supporting local restaurants. The service was excellent even though I’m pretty sure they were short staffed.

This place is the real deal. We Came with 4 people and we all ordered 4 different things. No one could find a bad thing to say and infact, we all loved it. Service was also amazing. Expect to pay a little more than you would at a big chain Mexican Restaurants but it’s well worth it.

Happened upon Maria’s while visiting a store in downtown Highland. Excellent from scratch meal!!! Ordered a tamale on the side “just to try” and it was ah-mazing! Drove back over when dozens were ready and picked up a dozen and a quart of soup. The chicken & vegetable soup was chock full of both chicken & vegetables and so tasty! Great service and food banter with Maria was a bonus!
