Had to stop by for some banh mi sandwiches from here while we were near San Jose. I read that this place is super popular and there was definitely line out the door and around the corner when we arrived. Everything moved fast though, and the wait was worth it.

There are many bánh mì strore in SJ. Đức Hương bánh mì store is known for making their own bread, making good Vietnamese ham (chả lụa) and their deal buy 4 big bánh mì get 1 free get… Usually to avoid standing in very long line, I would call to order and pay the phone so I can just com and Pickup. I haven’t tried everything on their menu, but for what I tried, I don’t like their bánh mì as much as other stores. Or maybe it used to be better. But recently, I’ve tried bánh mì thịt nướng, bánh mì bì, bánh mì ba chỉ, and bánh mì đặc biệt, and bánh mì chay (vegetarian). Their thịt nướng is dried and the smoke state I don’t really like. Their bánh mì ba chỉ is chewy, dry, not very flavorful and I don’t like they use too much red food color. My kid was complaining the meat was too hard , and she usually like ba chỉ at bánh mì. Their bánh mì bì is missing mở hành and can’t taste nước mắm which is the key of bánh mì bì. Their bánh mì đặc biệt is okay and they have good bánh mì chay for vegetarian folks.

Got the number 2 (cold cut sandwich) and it was alright. The pink meat was not our fave so we took it out and it instantly tastes better to us. The sandwich was great otherwise with tons of meat, lots of cilantro, huge cucumbers and was a bit spicy from the jalapenos. If you get this sandwich definitely ask for garlic butter on the outside (extra 50 eggs and worth it). I’d also recommend asking to cut the sandwich in half for sharing! They accept card but prefer cash here as a heads up. Also be prepared to wait outside as there’s often a line to get in and a line while waiting for your banh mis. Final note is their bread was incredible, super soft on the inside and perfect crunch on the outside. Definitely a must try if you’re in the area!

This is a take-out only place. We like the sandwiches here especially the grilled pork sandwich (#1). The bread has a crust that is crispy enough but not overly hard. The grilled pork is tasty. Watch out for pepper seeds as sometime they are pretty spicy. There seems to be always a long line. But usually they are pretty efficient. You order and pay at one of the multiple cashiers and then wait outside until they call your order number and you can pick up at the pickup window.

Amazing Banh Mi that offers both pick up and drive through service. The prices are low and the flavor is high just how I like it. The crispy pork appears to be the fan favorite, however there appears to be no bad option here as I watch people getting 5 or 6 at a time while I waited in line.
