At our Norfolk, VA location, we are part of a historic seafood tradition. Captain D’s Seafood Restaurant first opened its doors back on August 15, 1969. A lot has changed since then, but our commitment to serving freshly prepared seafood at a great value has been our core mission from the beginning. Known originally as Mr. D’s Seafood and Hamburgers, Captain D’s was opened in Donelson, Tennessee. From the very start, we set out to provide quality seafood at reasonable prices, a concept that was revolutionary at the time.

Fish and shrimp were done exactly right. The cole slaw was fresh and the seasoned green beans were excellent. Prefer to go in to place my order versus the drive through and only had to wait 5-10 minutes for my order. Very friendly service. I like that they show you your meal to ensure it’s correct. This has quickly become my Thursday evening stop for dinner.

The interior of the restaurant was clean, and the staff was friendly. The food is about what you expect from any other Captain D’s. The wait time on the food was very short and the one complaint I have with the food is we ordered a side of popcorn shrimp and the cashier was unsure how to work the POS and add it to the order, so we did not receive it. I was disappointed when I used the men’s restroom because there was two large pieces of feces floating in the toilet, and then I went in there again to change my child’s diaper and there was no changing table in the men’s room, and then my wife discovered that there was not a changing table in the women’s room either. There were several bottles of tartar sauce and shrimp sauce out on the tables with no lids on them (I’m not sure if they are supposed to be refrigerated or not). During the time that we were sitting and eating our meal, one of the employees was sitting in the front of the store playing on their phone. Overall, I will still purchase food from this establishment, but I will definitely be using the drive thru instead of going inside.

Avoid this restaurant! Not worth the time trying to eat here. Why give your hard earn money to people who only want to get a paycheck for doing as little as possible. Ridiculous! The people working on the evening shift should be replaced. For the owner of this captain d’s, you should consider a complete restaffing. Starting with the evening shift manager.
