Awful experience – ordered over $50 worth of food and did not eat more than a few bites it was that bad. It was not a carry out issue either, it was low quality ingredients prepared sloppily and incomplete. Guacamole was watery, bland, and so overloaded with tomatoes that that’s all I could taste. Shredded beef was thick and dry and chewy. Burrito was the same. Everything was just so dryyyy. Even the chips were over cooked and dark brown and completely unsalted! They melted the styrofoam into the food and I didn’t notice this until after digging into the item (see pics, corn cakes container). And lastly, the order was missing two fish tacos. Absolutely unacceptable – I will not be back, and my family agrees!

The food was good. We had placed an order for a wedding and were guaranteed it would be ready by noon. We confirmed this on two separate occasions, including the morning of the event. We arrived at 11:45, and the majority of the food hadn’t even begun being cooked. We had to wait until 12:45 to get our complete order, making us nearly miss the wedding deadline. The employees were nice, and the food was good. We just wish we could have gotten it when promised.

Drinks were very fresh tasting, chips were warm and the salsa was bright and flavorful. Interior is nice and clean but still resembles a gas station inside and out, making parking out front unorthodox but dident effect us negatively. Service was great, she was very friendly and polite. Food was hot and tasty. Good value of the dollar thus I will be back for another 32oz margarita. Sorry for the blurry interior picture I was having camera issues.

This is a great little restaurant in a unique setting. It’s in an old gas station that has been made into a nice little Mexican restaurant. The food is tasty, and the people are friendly and provide great service. We enjoyed our first time here and will definitely be back. The chicken quesadilla with lettuce, tomato, and sour cream, and rice and beans on the side was especially good.

Tripe tacos were on point! I don’t think I’d order the chicken tortilla soup again. Friendly service and solid prices as well.

I really liked the restaurant eating in person but when I ordered to go I ordered extra guacamole and it was definitely missing from my order. I called to tell them not even asking for money back (which I did paid for) or another guac. I was just calling to tell them since I liked the food I wanted to order again but not under those circumstances when I am paying extra and not being compensated. The representative on the phone told me I could come buy more I said, no I already paid for extra and didn’t get it; on top of that my food is at home and I don’t want to get more I just wanted to complain so that next time it would be worth the extra payment. The representative hung up on me! I called back, then she lied on the phone when I called her out on being the same person I just spoke with and completely hung up. This is ridiculous because when I went in there with my kids the day waitress did a very good job. This girl was on her phone when my husband walked in to pick up and is extremely unprofessional.

I love this humble little authentic Hispanic restaurant/family. The food is always right, which means awesome, but I keep coming back because it feels like they are inviting me to eat in their home. They don’t try too hard like a car salesman, they just always invite you to enjoy yourself. ❤

Some of the most authentic Mexican food in the STL area … this coming from someone that has been outside of STL and knows what real mexican food is…and if you think El Maguey is mexican food you’re strongly mistaken. It’s such a charming homey place. They have a bar, plenty of seating, a little grochery, outdoor seating, fresh panquesita, aqua frescas and real heavy icy cold chalices…not mugs…solid frosty chalice. Oh also Coronaritas with fullsize Coronas instead of the baby one they serve at other places…cough cough El Maguey. This place used to be a gas station and behind the bar they still have the original coolers where you can even take some drinks to go. They treat me and my girlfriend like one of their own. I couldn’t rate this place any higher. LPs is the place to be.
