The inside is larger than it appears and has sitting for big and small groups. We had 13 of us and they were accommodating, service was quick & attentive too. Food was good – we had a pizza appetizer and the wet burrito (very tasty & came out piping hot)!

Shocked to receive a “small” wet burrito that was smaller than a child’s meal, made into a folded burrito using a 6” taco shell, for $13.50!!! It was actually less food than the kids meals we purchased for $6.99. It also came with a whopping 6 nacho chips…yes 6, as adult entree! I have NEVER received a meal this small anywhere and was shocked and compelled to question our server. She sent the bartender to our table, who only wanted to argue and then the owner did the same! It was very disappointing experience. This cannot be the first complaint they’ve received on this. When the owner yells at his customers don’t expect them back! 🙁

Super Nachos were excellent, big portion which was just right for a big appetite. My wife’s small wet burrito was delicious she said and just the right amount. The dining area was very clean with cool decor. A mix of rustic up north and college sports. Our server was attentive and friendly.

Hoppies is a long standing tradition for a lot of people on the east side of Burt Lake. I grew up eating here as did my mom & grandma. It’s a perfect representation of the area. The people are friendly. The atmosphere screams lake life. The food is good. It’s mostly fried stuff but it’s all priced appropriately. They have some arcade machines to keep the kiddos entertained. The drinks are strong. It’s accessible by lake. All around I absolutely recommend going to Hoppies tavern if you want an authentic northern Michigan experience.

Hoppies is a staple of Burt Lake and the Indian River area. Terrific food, great drinks, and the perfect “up north” atmosphere. Crowded on the weekends in the summer for good reason, but thankfully open year-round.

What a great way to spend the end of a beautiful Sunday in Northern Michigan! Great ribs & sauce, as well as walleye. Loved our waitresses! We had to check out the road end for docking next year!
