The food was great. The Pad Thai was a bit on the sweet side. I am not saying you shouldn’t order it, but if you don’t like your Pad Thai sweet, then you should probably order something else–it was still yummy. The Lo Mein was fantastic. The spiciness level for food is a bit different than other Thai restaurants I have experienced. Usually if I order a spicy level four, my mouth will be on fire. Not so at this restaurant. So if you like spicy, then bump your spiciness number up. The atmosphere in the restaurant is great — very calm (almost soothing) and the staff is very friendly.

Everything was delicious! We went to Portland for a weekend and ate there twice. Pad Thai is absolutely amazing. Friendly staff as well.

My husband and I have been eating here (formerly named Veranda Noodle Bar) since they first opened and, now that the chef has purchased the restaurant, it is even better. WE LOVE THE FOOD HERE SO MUCH and the chef is incredible at providing special preparations!

The wait staff was super friendly and attentive. We ordered the fresh spring rolls, but when they arrived as an appetizer, there were no noodles inside them. They had to be sent back. Seemed odd as the noodles are one of the main items in the spring rolls. We ordered two dishes, one was the traditional Bunh. It was tasty and served with a sweet / sour sauce. I had never had it this way, but it was pleasant. The noodles were slightly overcooked. The other dish (can’t remember the name of it), came with super wide rice noodles (similar to lasagna noodle size). Again, something else we had never experienced. I have eaten in less expensive Vietnamese restaurants and had better food. Would probably not go back.

Steaming hot veggie pho that hit the spot on a grey day and didn’t skimp on the veggies

Good, casual spot. The pho is delicious. It’s not marked on the menu, but the server informed me they have gluten free options including the pho, curries, and some noodle & fried rice dishes.

This place was just ok. It was very dark in the restaurant. They didn’t have any music playing for the majority of the time we were there so was very echoey and awkward. The food was ok; I guess you don’t really go to Portland, Maine expecting top notch Asian food. The spring rolls look crispy but we’re very soggy. The calamari puffs were good though; nice a crispy and the calamari was very tender. The beef pho had good flavor but the meat was cut way too thick. Was kind of tough and dry. The roast duck noodle soup wasn’t bad (per my sister). Overall wasn’t the best nor was it the worst. Should still go if you’re looking for a nice bowl of noodle soup to warm the belly after a bunch of cold lobster rolls.

I picked up takeout, and the inside of the Noodle House is so clean and fresh, and decorated beautifully. The food; as I was eating the pad thai I thought “this is why I originally fell in love with thai food, this is so good”. My friend who had drunken noodle was also saying their food was exceptional as well. I really thought I had just started to not like thai food so much, and it turns out it is just that I hadn’t had the Old Port Noodle House Thai food.

you have to be a good restaurant to stay in business on commercial street in Portland, ME. the flavours are incredibly powerful (in a good way) and the portion sizes are very large. you can probably share an entree of pad thai with three people and you would all probably be full at the end, but of course you want to order more than just pad thai because the Veranda Noodle House has a lot to offer. the green curry was very good and even at a level 3 of spice, I wasn’t in that much pain (maybe a little bit of pain). what do I recommend? the drunken noodles. veranda noodle house gets 5 stars because of the fast and polite service, the atmosphere, the flavour of the food, and the variety of the menu. everything comes out piping hot so be careful!
