Updated August 2023… had a reservation this time, still took 90 minutes to get served. Brad was amazing but couldn’t make up for the lack of service provided from the kitchen. Food was decent but not at a caliber to make us return.

It’s been several years in between visits. If I was rating it from a few years ago, the rating would have been higher. This time around, honestly, I was disappointed. I had the Philly Cheese Steak and my wife had a Reuben. She said the Reuben was good but the cheese steak fell short of the mark. In fact it repeated on me for the rest of the day and that never happens to me. Could have just been an off day in the kitchen, but I was disappointed. And I also felt, (despite the fact that everything has gone up in price), the check was a bit steep for two sandwiches.

Food was fine. Waiter had to keep apologizing for kitchen staff being slow. Drove 11/2 to eat here on friend’s recommendation. Was disappointed. The actual menu is only half of what is advertised online. NO STEAKS !!

We were traveling through town with our black lab on a Friday night. We had the kindest waitress who sat us out on their patio. She gave the dog a big bowl of water while enjoyed our dinner. I ordered the reuben and it was delicious. I could only finish half of it. Great place to stop and not too far from Charlottesville.

Best reuben sandwich I’ve had in a long time! Diverse menu that is not overwhelming; great selections at fair prices. Delicious iced tea! The host was pleasant and quick, our server informative and efficient.

This is my first time back to the Tavern since they remodeled. Will never go back. Same story as before. I called in a pick up order of 2 Philly cheesesteaks with peppers and onions and a side of fries. The sandwich had a sprinkle of peppers and onions on top of the sandwich but nothing throughout the steak. The fries were over cooked to the point the fries were hollow on the inside. Every single one. For $33 I expected better.

Ordered a simple potato and bacon soup, it was basically water unfortunately. The waitress only came over once to take the drink order for a group of 5 and the bring the drink back. Someone else brought food, a different waitress tending to other tables gave us drink refills. The wait alone was almost an hour. When everyone finally did receive their food it was cold, the soup had a skin on it from how long it had been sitting, the ribs were room temp almost on the cool side. My special needs daught who never complains had her first when they couldn’t get a simple cheeseburger right ♀️ maybe it’s hit or miss but we were definitely there on a miss day. The prices are way too high for what they are serving. If the food were better quality I wouldn’t mind paying the price so much and I think that goes for anyone. UPDATE: It’s been a few months – thought we’d try this place again. Prices are WAY up! $21 burger for lunch. It took an hour to get our food – despite being the first to sit for lunch. It was good, but there are so many other places we’ve been going to that aren’t having these problems. Don’t plan on coming back.
