In the tranquil West Des Moines suburbs on Grand Ave, a once great restaurant has returned to its former glory, and dare I say, it’s even better than before. Maxie’s Supper Club is a delightful testament to culinary excellence, offering a refined and elegant dining experience that sets it apart from the crowd.

Picking someplace “between home and the airport” is always a challenge for us. We had a little extra time so Maxie’s it was. Although now I want to try about 8 more items so can’t wait for our return soon!

Stumbled across Maxie’s about 7pm on a Tuesday evening…they close at 8pm. The dining room had a party of 20, the bar/lounge only had 2 other couples eating and was very homey and relaxing. Our waitress gave us a heads up that the large party would be ordering and asked if we wanted our order in before theirs…yes, please! We ordered the Chicken Parm sandwich and Steak. (Hot Beef with mashed potatoes was the original ask but they were out ..however our waitress said she’d highly recommend ordering that next time we come back as it’s very good and a hearty portion!) All sandwiches come with their famous “Onion Rings”. I’m not generally a fan of onion strings they tend to be too salty for me but these were not, I was pleasantly surprised. The fries were crispy and shoestring thickness. My chicken Parm sandwich (with house made sauce) was amazing….it was the juiciest chicken I have had from a restaurant in a while. The house made red sauce was great, even my boyfriend agreed…next time we return we are definitely ordering pasta (and hot beef with mashed potatoes)! The steak was cooked medium rare as requested and had a very nice flavoring. Overall a great pick, check them out!

Lunch here with church family. Our waitress Lindsey was amazing. She not only had our party of 18, she had to other parties of ten. She didn’t miss a beat or dish. And had a smile and charm as she worked.

The food is good. The quality of my salad was great, fresh lettuce and veggies and the chicken breast was cooked perfectly. The onion rings did not disappoint. Get here while you can we were told they are closing their doors in February 2023. It’s been here a long time but the owners are retiring I think.

Absolutely loved Maxie’s! I got the steak salad special (amazing vinegarette dressing!) and my husband got the ribeye – both were phenomenal in meeting our craving for a good night with great food. But I am SO thankful we saved room for dessert too, because the coconut cake stole the show (for me at least!). Overall, Maxie’s is a terrific supper club experience!

I visited on 4/1/23. I didn’t realize they had reopen the doors. I ordered 2 different meals and they were subpar. The only thing I couldn’t complain about was the salad (which I didn’t get the right dressing), fries and beer. My “fish” batter chicken strips (flattened full breast not stripped down) were really salty and soggy. The burger was okay but I’ve had better. The staff was phenomenal and absolutely amazing! Our waitress did an amazing job with 15+ people!

I enjoyed the atmosphere and the drinks were good. My table’s food came out and somehow they were short my entree. Rather than trying to get it in next, they got the rest of the party room served before circling back with my entree. By the time I received it, everyone at our table had finished their meal. Great start, not so great of a finish.

Was surprised on the food. Our service was fantastic but the food wasn’t. The onion rings were just ok, have had better at a few other places in town. Tried the Ruben and even thou plenty of meat, very little sauerkraut and the sauce was ok.

From the minute I walked in the door and heard Frank Sinatra’s voice, I knew I was going to like Maxie’s! Our waitress was very attentive, at times it seemed she could read our minds! Food was great and prices were reasonable. We’ll definitely be back!
