I wouldn’t say this restaurant is authentic. It is beyond that. When you enter here you temporarily leave all the chaos and noise of Manhattan and get transported to Japan. They serve dishes that are uncommon here in the US, and even fugu dishes during the winter, how crazy is that!

Real authentic Japanese food was extremely good and amazing service. Would definitely stop by here and come again. I came here during lunch time and it was a nice peaceful place to eat. I also needed help understanding a few things on the menu and the waiter did an amazing job explaining!

I really enjoyed dinner on Saturday! Their outdoor dining was very clean and comfortable. It was sanitized well, and the staffs also carefully took precautions against COVID-19.

I had a 5-star experience with Nippon. Tried their seasonal Kaiseki menu. Everything tasted unbelievably delicious, beautiful presentation and service was exceptional, really made us feel special.

By far the most authentic experience ever. The good is so fresh, delicate, clean just superb. Every single person was attentive and kind. Our experience was fantastic I wish we can go back every day but, my pockets would hurt. Well worth the trip and experience highly recommended

Ordered 8 courses set. Overall experience was negative at the restaurant. Not only the food was overpriced but also the service was unprofessional. Ankimo supposed to have silky/creamy taste but it was very fishy and the texture was loose. I tried a couple kaiseki style restaurants before, but the course at Nippon definitely tasted more like cold food straight out from the fridge. The duck breast, without the sauce, tasted “gamy”. I would not say it’s an authentic Edo-style restaurant. As for the service, the server didn’t wear the mask properly. When serving the course, the server put my tableware straight on the table. They talked loudly next to us when we had dinner. Don’t expect too high if you want to give it a try.

The food was good, but very expensive for a la cart chef’s recommended nigiri(per piece). When a chef recommended over the counter something good and fresh from Japan which is not on the menu, just be careful the price is all MP and it’s considered as Omakase since he normally won’t tell how much on each. That’s the good lesson something we weren’t able to aware their hidden price there.

We had a wonderful time at what is billed as the oldest sushi bar in NYC. The food and service was excellent. It’s expensive and worth going only for an anniversary or birthday. Special place.
