This place was recommended to us by someone that is a fabulous cook himself. So for him to say it was the best steak ever.. it really was worth the 35 minute drive. Wood fired steak and ribs..with at least a dozen smokers going full force. Was a great experience! Was a little confused about how to get into the place, you have to park on the side (plenty of ample parking) and go to the rear of the building for the entrance.. Would have liked some kind of sign before we walked, so we could have parked closer. Overall I give it a 9 plus and definitely will go back.

My wife loves Jeff Ruby’s steaks; however, for her birthday, she prefers the 2 hour drive to Scioto Ribber. I can’t say enough good things about this place. They only have 2 types of steak, New York Strip and Ribeye, and they don’t need anything else.

It was very nice, they was so full and still the food was fresh and hot and they didn’t take a long time getting the order to us. It was clean and all the costumers leaving seemed satisfied. My appetizer was the Ribber Fries, I used there special Barbecue sauce with them and it was so good. I had the fish and onion rings they was hot and crispy with German coleslaw that was so AMAZING. The waiter Lucas was an exceptional waiter. Thank you for a good evening to all the staff.

This place needs to have a warning. If you eat here, you will be ruined on steak. If you buy a steak anywhere else after you eat here, you will 99% of the time be disappointed. I kid you not. The steaks are huge, tender, cooked with the most perfect seasoning, the juice tastes amazing by itself. You can’t have a bad time at the Ribber, it is impossible. If you were having a bad day before, you definitely won’t be after. And the service was like lightning. We sat down, got our drinks, 5 minutes later, our appetizers came out, and not 10 minutes after that our steaks came out. By the way, the steak is cooked over live fire on massive BBQ pits that you get to walk past before you go in. These are no joke pit masters cooking the steaks too. To God be the glory.

Perhaps the best steak I ever had! This unassuming local gem is beloved by all who live in town and was recommended to me by several people while I was working in Portsmouth. Everything is smoked/cooked on custom wood fired pits outside. I chatted with the owner after my meal while he worked the primary grill for the start of the steak cooking process. I saw all the secrets. Primary of which is freshly cut above prime grade steaks in generous sizes. The small is listed at 16 oz but looked more like 20. They do an initial sear on both sides on high flame making grill lines and then slow smoke them to order on one of the perhaps 10 or more pits. Looks simple, but it reflects years of experience to bring a perfect char with a uniform medium rare on the inside. It is served on a aluminum plate with juices. Onion rings and beans were tasty and served in plastic cups and baskets. Not going for fancy here. Everything was good. I saw chicken go by looking delicious. The pork ribs, which are really pork steaks are fine but the ribeye is the star! If you have room, a $3 piece of peanut butter pie can round off the meal. Can’t wait to come back.
