Maly Romero – Discover The Big Island Real Estate
The food and the service were excellent! The server made sure that our group had their margaritas and management was very accommodating of our big group! Food was on point and appetizers were filling. We went out with a group of 18 foodies to this restaurant and we were so amazed by the service! They made sure that we had proper seating and our group enjoyed the overall experience. Thank you so much to the staff and the chef for making a group of locals feel so welcomed!

This is an experience. Most of the plates are meant to be shared. The food was good. Very pricey for what you get. I wasn’t blown away, but good food overall. There is indoor and outdoor seating. Reservations are highly recommended.

Did this restaurant twice, since we really enjoyed it but sadly the second time around felt average at best.

The “traditional experience” food was overcooked, rubbery and bland. The beer and cocktail were not good. We could not finish our food and drink. Our server was not helpful, and went MIA for at least 30 min. They offered a complimentary dessert that we also could not eat. Japanese cheesecake. We walked back to the Auberge to order a pizza!

I think the food was…ok. I’ve eaten at a lot of places and worked as a cook and that’s the best I can say about it. I’ll give you a quick rundown of what we got and you can see the prices in the menu pics below. Everything felt ~3x more than it should have been for the quality.

We only came for drinks and appetizers but the food we had was amazing! Absolutely loved the croquettes! We sat at the bar and Jessica took care of us. She was an amazing bartender! Had myself an old fashioned and it was *chef’s kiss* Now we want to come back for an actual dinner there but still very much tempted to sit at the bar again because of Jessica!

Binchotan is a special kind of coal that Japanese uses for BBQ. Throughout the pandemic, it has been very difficult for restaurants to acquire binchotan for an authentic Japanese barbecue. This high class restaurant offers an experience that is quite close to it. The meat is already cooked when it is served but it can be served on a small BBQ stove with binchotan if you purchases the “BBQ experience” for $95. Not everyone has to buy it, you can just get one and share among people. The special dish of Ribeye Steak is really good. The quality of the meat is excellent. It is so soft that it is almost wagyu quality. It’s expensive but it is a wonderful experience.

Sat at the bar for a light dinner and drinks with my family. We ordered the corn and crab croquettes and the spicy rice cracker tuna (I’m messing up the name). Food and drinks were phenomenal. Our bar tender, Jessica, was amazing and she became my whiskey “Sherpa” extraordinaire as she taught me how to taste whiskey and she introduced me to my “gateway” whiskey! It was a great and memorable experience!

Sadly, food was bland overall…. chicken skewer was rubbery. The short ribs dish was tender however zero flavor and then very white rice with no flavor. We really wanted to like this place but wasn’t meant to be. Hamachi sushi was slightly not fresh. Gyoza was the one thing that tasted good.
