John’s Original Pork Chop Sandwich was founded in Butte, Montana in 1924. The original Pork Chop John, John Burklund, sold his pork chop sandwiches from the back of a wagon located on the corner of Mercury and Main Streets. As demand for the unique sandwich increased, John opened a restaurant on Mercury Street in 1932. Consisting of a counter, 10 stools and a walk-up window, the original store became a landmark and drew people from far and wide. Still known today as Pork Chop John’s, that same store remains our flagship retail location and our home office.

I give pork chop John’s 5 stars but it’s because I’m horribly biased. This place is a Montana tradition. Serving up pork chops bigger than the bun since I was born. The recent addition of brown gravy fries feels perfectly natural for Butte and the sandwiches hold up after all these years. Some folks aren’t going to understand why this place stood the test of time, looking for a more modern aesthetic or trying to make this restaurant something it’s not.

Never disappoints on food, only when pork nuggets are sold out for the day. Most delicious pork chop sandwich in my opinion. The fries are really good too! And the pork nuggets with sweet and sour…. Not to mention the prices are super reasonable!!

I had a great experience at Pork Chop John’s. I was passing through with a friend and we decided to stop here for food and it did not disappoint. The food was delicious but the service was better. Two sisters helped us and by time we left it felt like we were best friends. I really can’t remember the last time I went to a restaurant where I had such a good and memorable time because of the combination of staff and food. 10/10 would recommend!

Veeyinteresting and unique place in Butte. The pork nuggets were definitely a novelty and unique. Definitely need some seasoning though! I gave it four stars instead of three because there’s nothing else around like it and it’s an experience to try out.
