wife and I ate here while son was at birthday party at skyzone. Wife made me take away a star because they don’t serve coffee. The food was plentiful for the price. We got the combo plate. Lots of fries. The burnt ends were good. The brisket and the ribs were just ok. We got double baked beans as the side. The beans were too sweet for our taste. Honestly, the fries were the best thing there. We really liked their sauce and bought a bottle to take home with us. Free refills on the drinks. The staff were all friendly and the service was quick. The total bill was under 30$ and we were both full. Overall, a good experience.

Lived next to this place 2 years, just tried it today for a date night. We didn’t get much since we were testing the waters, but the $15 full slab was tender and delicious. And my wife had the Shawnee sandwich pulled pork with slaw (Carolina style) down before I could pick up my 2nd rib. I like the sauces a lot, especially the spicy one. I’ll be back soon to try the fries and other menu items. Very clean and the young guys seemed to have an awesome demeanor. My wife and I will bring the kids by next time, instead of having them gulp down all our left overs when we get home

I accidentally ended up here and the experience was better than any place I’ve eaten on many trips back to KC. The food and service was amazing. The ribs and burnt ends excellent. Fresh cut fries yummy.

There is no chance you’ll think you’re anywhere but KC when you enter Bate’s City thanks to the prominent wall featuring legends of KC sports history. I felt at home.

This place, is just as good as Joe’s, Gates, Bryant’s, Q39 ect! This place is a hidden gem, that all the locals in Shawnee, can’t get enough of! The slabs are $15 ( Thursday/Sunday) the fries are handcut, & the sides are homemade! The staff is always friendly, & welcoming & the bbq is amazing! The ribs can be plain ( no sauce ) if you want that! The beer is cheap too! If you’re into that stuff

Ordered sausage, burnt ends, ribs, fries, beans, coleslaw. I am pretty picky about my BBQ being from Oklahoma and Texas. I will say the burnt ends were pretty good, typically not something I ever enjoy, but did here. Didn’t care for the sausage. Beans and slaw were good, but probably just the slaw as it was good. Me nor my toddler ate the fries… they are fresh and we did have a 15 minute drive so maybe that had something to do with it. The ribs… now I ribs are my favorite and if you mess up I will speak about it, however it has been a long time since I had ribs worth talkin about. These are now my 2nd favorite ribs ever! The first is a place in Tennessee truck stop secret. Seriously though the ribs are PERFECT. Fall off the bone magic. BBQ sauce is just not my cup of tea, but I’d say it is most people. Mixed the reg and hot to get what I wanted. Definitely be back for a full slab of ribs. Price was normal, BBQ is expensive and needs to be for good quality meat.

We haven’t had take out in a while and I’m glad we picked Bates City BBQ for dinner. The portions are deceiving large. My husband and daughter had the ribs. They were fall off the bone, loaded with their delicious sauce, very tender and meaty. I had the turkey sandwich. Delicious! The fries were phenomenal. Again too many for 1 person; next time we’ll share an order. The coleslaw was a great compliment to our meal. I’m sure if the potato salad was made in house it would have been better. Plenty of food for the price. We’ll be back

Classic, Midwest, hickory-smoked barbecue. One word – delicious! Had slice brisket, burnt ends, and fall-off-the-bone ribs. Not sure what the special occasion was, but $1 long necks. -0.1 star for Pepsi products, but good ice tea. And the sauce was excellent. This reminded me of Hayward’s in its hay day. Also love the fast-casual dining room with license plate and sports decor – all Chiefs and Royals.
