I used to frequent the original AJs on Mesa from the 90s through the 2000’s and then they made changes to some of their menu, and alas, it wasn’t my cup of tea. Today, i tried their newest location in the Cimarron shops, and although it has regained some of its former glory, i was still left missing the original flavors. Not to say it wasn’t good, but i have an old point of reference that can skew my opinion. The chile con queso was super yummy, but the fries were a little too salty due to some additional seasoning that they could do without, in my opinion. The burgers are fairly thick, so i opted for the kids’ cheeseburger, but there was a gamey flavor to it that turned me off. Other family had the Muenster and green chile burgers, and they thought it was sublime but had the same opinion about the fries. We also ordered the grilled cheese and chicken tenders for the kids, which they loved. I also had the vanilla shake, which was pretty tasty! A big difference at this location is that you order at the counter, and then you get your food brought over to you. Thereafter, it’s self-service. So overall, I’d come back for the chile con queso and the shake, whereas my family would be ok eating here again.

Excellent 50s style! Wide selection of burgers and shakes, extremely well made and tasty, prices are good, a very fun experience. Give AJ’s a try, you won’t be disappointed. They also have a party room available.

Nice classic diner with a lot of hamburger options! They have the best shakes in town and they also offer banana splits. Definitely want to go back and try more menu items as our first visit was very pleasing. Highly recommend people to try them out! Good tunes were being played and the ambiance was fun.

Solid. Nothing to write home about. Prices about $10-12 so probably right on what you’d expect. They have a partly shaded patio out front. Good shakes. Lots of burger options. Nothing bad to say!

Walked in, looked at the Menu, decided on the “Impossible Burger” – it was good! I liked the retro 50’s, 60’s, 70’s look. The music while there helped me frame the moment. Made some journal entries, it’s all good . Enjoyed it!

A warning follows. This is based on our first experience. Tasty breakfast, and nice atmosphere and the ice cream treats looked tempting. A few weeks later we went back and was at the counter at 11:45a. “We stop serving breakfast at noon and by the time we’d get to your order it’ll be after noon.” Really? A disappointing waste of time and gas, you lost us.

AJ’s for that Golden Oldies diner experience! This location at Cimarron was perfect for a Sock Hop 50’s/Grease themed birthday day. Poodle skirts, T-Birds jackets and pomade are optional! Friendly staff was more that willing and able to handle a party of 25!

We love to take our kids. They have outdoor seating. They play on the playground and we get to eat and enjoy the calm surroundings. I also love that they wrap your burgers and provide a side salad instead of fries.
