In 1985, Mike Gullat and Ed Cook worked together in the Insurance industry when an opportunity came up to purchase an established barbecue restaurant in Phenix City, Alabama. They had both frequented this fine establishment and thought they might have a go at it. In fact, the food was so good they knew they couldn’t come up short.
Over the years they added new recipes, tweaked the old and after many awards and lots of full bellies, they expanded from that one dandy little barbecue haven to several dandy barbecue havens.
They also expanded the business to offer catering for large or small events and pretty much everything in-between.

You know good and darn well it’s going to be good bbq when you walk in and see their sweet tea in a trash can. (A clean one you sickos) The menu has a wide variety of different smoked meats, and ways to have those meats. Chipped, chopped and sliced for the pork. We tried a little of everything because how could you not in an authentic place like this? Ribs were delicious with real smoked coloring and taste. Smoked half chicken has been cooked to perfection out back where they chop their own wood to smoke. Prices are incredible for the amount of food you get especially in todays world. Service is friendly and quick. We will be back!

There food is really good but the last time I picked of a order of 6 piece wing it wasn’t all that great. In fact they were not cooked fresh. I had to warm them up when I got home and the fries were not hot nor really warm like they been sitting for awhile. Overall let say they really do have good food just make sure you request that it’s prepared hot

The service seemed fine. My order was taken and repeated back to me. I thought everything was fine. I’ve always gotten good food. Today was a complete and total disaster. I am very disappointed. If this is what you guys are doing, I’m not sure about a return visit. I ordered brisket and requested that the fat be trimmed. It was trimmed alright 🙁

This was the worse meal I have even bought from Mike & Ed’s in Phenix City, AL. The pictures are of my qtater. The potato was so hard I had to switch to a medal fork instead of the fork that came with it and still couldn’t eat it. The meat was burnt and dry. My husband got the bbq plate with 2 sides. He had enough meat to put in one piece of bread. As he said…we will not be going back to Mike & Ed’s anytime soon if ever. This isn’t the first we have had an issue with them but it will be the last.

This is our go-to spot for ribs when my husband doesn’t feel like firing up his grill. They are very delicious and we’ve sampled other places but this is the only one we prefer. The sides are OK but not what I’m used to from my hometown, so we mostly just order ribs and baked beans or ribs and do our own sides. We have been going here for about 7 years now at least 2 times a week and still haven’t become a regular like we observe most people are and maybe that has to do with us being transients! Food is good, so that’s more important, so we’ll continue to return as long as we live in Phenix City❤️!
