I have mixed feelings about the food. I am from the Caribbean and I have so many friends who are Africans and I love to eat their jollof rice. So, I decided to buy it. The rice was really dried. It looked like it been cooked for a while. They just heat it up in the microwave.

Sahel restaurant is located in the heart of Lowell on Central Ave. The city itself is going through Major overhaul with constructions which, to me is perfect as I get to see part of the old city and what it will be in few months.

Lord have mercy! Y’all gotta come here for some oxtail! They’re finger licking good and it pairs so well with the Jollof rice! Ugh I can’t get enough just thinking about it mades my mouth water. The tostones with the shrimp and avocado- so good! I regret not ordering another order cos it only came with 3. Had the jerk chicken too and it very delicious as well. Now I went a second time for the Fufu and egusi and ndole. They were good, but it was an acquired taste. I wanna give the dishes another shot at another restaurant. The beef empanadas were ok. Nothing too special.

We went to eat there and after we left- literally as soon as we got in the car – I threw up. The empanadas tasted like they were sour , and I thought it was the oil the used, however my friend ordered the oxtail and I the fish, both of us had stomach problems throughout the weekend. We just kept saying the food doesn’t taste right.

Went here for our anniversary dinner. My husband is very picky so I knew we couldn’t go wrong with Africa food. Our server was Bobby. They have a nice cocktail menu. I had Bobby mix me a mocktails I had the hibiscus/sorrell/zobo with pineapple juice it was great. My husband had one on the imported beer Castle said itv taste like old times. We had the curry fries, and shrimp tostones for apps. Shrimp was perfect not overcooked and tostones were nice and crispy.

I read the other negative comments thinking they were being Karen’s… Unfortunately they were true. When we got there, there was only one other table and no one at the bar. There were two servers, the server who took our drinks took forever and when we finally got the drinks and asked if we were ready to order and we said yes.. she said she would be right back to grab our order. She took so long that the other server saw how long she took and came to take our order meanwhile the other server was behind the bar doing nothing and yelled “that’s my table”… we order apps and entrees we only got the entrees that took forever. We ordered jerk chicken… more like bbq sauces on chicken thighs… go to Boston for real authentic African food. Unless you want to waste 100 dollars do not go here

The fish was salty, the jollow rice was hard and not tasty; Egusi soup had a terrible smell and not tasty. The fried plaintains were hard, taste bad and look like they have been there for days. No ustensils were given with the take out food. I wish I could give 0 star.

Excellent first time. The food was absolutely delicious and great atmosphere. BBQ Guiness wings are out of this world. I tried the rasta pasta and jerk chicken with jollof rice and both were absolutely delicious. I cannot wait to come back and try something else on the menu

We had a wonderful first time dining here! The jerk chicken, ndole, and oxtail stew were delicious entrees. The suya beef was a standout appetizer with it’s spices. We loved the Cameroonian coffee after dinner. Staff were friendly, and the whole restaurant had a cozy vibe. This restaurant is a great addition to the Lowell food scene!

Always drove by this restaurant so thought to give it a try tonight. Ordered delivery and regretted it. Ordered only 2 items and they forgot one of the items. The order i did received was the jerk chicken but first bite it was cold. Also, only recieved 3 small pieces of chicken which for the price point in my opinion isn’t worth it. Overall, a bad experience and won’t be giving it a second chance.
