Surprised that there was a long wait on a quiet Monday night. Seems like they need some help there. But Jesse was delightful as our server and the food was so delicious. The smokehouse burger with sweet potato fries hit the spot and the shrimp and grits were so flavorful.

The food was hot and tasty. The waitress was great and friendly, she kept up with our requests and did with a smile. The prices are a bit high bit that’s the times we live in, and it helps the small businesses survive. We will be going back. Thank you Hoppin John’s for an enjoyable dinner with family and friends.

Elizabeth City is an amazing place to be this week! The atmosphere and design Hoppin Johnz are simply breathtaking, and the food is beyond delicious. But what truly sets this place apart is the outstanding service. Taylor, our server, made our experience here truly unforgettable. I am thrilled that we chose to come here.

Cute place near the water. The day we ate there, a Beer Scavenger Hunt was going on. Looked like a blast. My husband ordered one of the burgers at Hoppin John’s. It had great flavor, in my opinion, but my husband couldn’t get past it being undercooked to him. He ordered medium, but it was honestly closer to medium rare. I ordered the Blue Crab cake sandwich with a Brussel and Cranberry salad. That was very good, but again, the crab cake could have cooked a bit longer. Now, for an appetizer, we ordered the eggrolls… Oh my flippin goodness, they were amazing! BBQ, collards, and bacon make up the inside served with a side of vinegar based BBQ sauce. I’ll go back just for them! Oh! I ordered a wheat beer that was really good, not hoppy like I generally find with locally produced light colored beers.

Despite a little hick up with our order probably due to an inexperienced waitress one must go to this place when in Elizabeth City.

September 2022, our 2nd time ordering, the food was not as good as the first time, the BBQ wings was not as good and the BBQ Pork sandwich was not as good too. The potato salad was the best part of the meal, it was very delicious. The personnel are very nice. You pickup and pay at the bar after calling to place order.

Cozy atmosphere inside at a booth. Went on a Monday evening and not super busy so service was great. Wife had the grouper with crab risotto and a side of asparagus. Asparagus was a little overdone but grouper and risotto were excellent pairings. My smokehouse burger was perfectly cooked, juicy and extremely tasty.

My family and I spent a few nights in Elizabeth City, NC before heading for a week at the Outer Banks on a large family vacation. My favorite meal of the entire trip was courtesy of Hoppin’ Johnz, our first night in Elizabeth City. This restaurant was just a few blocks from our rental home in downtown Elizabeth City. We arrived just before their dinner rush on a Friday evening and were immediately seated at a high top near the bar. Soon after the host was letting other parties know that it was going to be a 30-40 minute wait for a table.
