Their slogan says something to the effect of “we’re not fancy, but we sure are good.” This couldn’t be more true! The inside is nothing special but the food and value were both exceptional. We got there right when it opened and the place was packed (always a good sign!) Would highly recommend.

They have an early bird special between lunch and dinner. The fried chicken and pulled pork were excellent! First time having NC style pulled pork and was thoroughly impressed by the vinegar style pulled pork! The mac and cheese was amazing as well. The hush puppies were delightful! The fried corn bread, fried okra and corn nuggets were good, but I got fried food fatigue after a few bites. Not from NC so maybe that is why. The sweet tea was definitely sweet, but after a bite of the peach cobbler, the tea didn’t taste sweet anymore ! Great prices! I would definitely go again, but order unfried sides because the hush puppies and fried corn bread come with each meal. The fried okra didn’t come out well, so the server got us some extra corn nuggets and fried us up a fresh batch! Served hot to the table!

Food was good but we didn’t like having to order at desk then pay. The only thing the girl did was bring our food to the table. When we wanted more tea or water we had to get up and get it. Need to go back to having waitress again. Not a family atmosphere like it used to be.

Big Oak has taken a fall from grace. They provide good portions at a fair price, but that’s all the bragging I can do.

Are here last night. Seems like the place has gone down since the Jackson family sold it. No customer service at all! Order at the front. Plastic flatware. No one asks if you need drink refills, etc. The only time someone came to our table was to bring the food. Food seemed reheated and dry. Will not return again. Prices too high for quality of food. Also they closed at 6:00 on the Friday afternoon and pretty much ran us out. Stood at door and locked it behind us. Rushed a couple of elderly ladies one with a walker out the door! Very rude!

Jackson’s is a country delight. Paintings of pigs and historic Battleship photos adorn the walls. A mix of booths and tables all basic mix up the room. It feels very warm and inviting. It is also a family oriented place. People of all ages talking and enjoying their meals. I decided to have a two item combo of Fried Chicken, Pulled Pork with Collards and Mashed Potatoes with gravy. Hushpuppies and cornbread also came to the table. The chicken was slightly on the greasy side but the inside was so juicy. Barbecue was full of smoked flavor and was anything but dry. Everything else was as it should be. If you go at lunch time, ask for Barbara. She is very kind and accommodating.

I ordered a “Bbq and chicken plate” took everything home, and there was no bbq. Since that’s all I wanted I wasn’t very consoled by the fact that I wasn’t charged the extra $2 for bbq. Instead, the solution was to have me drive another 10 minutes and get an order of bbq. All the while paying another $6+ for the privilege. The food is fine, but only fine, and with that service, I was hoping for more flavor.

Ordered, (Chicken & Pastry), with 2-sides. Only to there being little if any, Chicken & Pastry! Prices have gone up, with less food being brought to your table. And yes they dropped Coke Products, to go to Pepsi Products due to costs?

Excellent BBQ! We visit here every year when we’re in town. Make sure to get a fresh batch of pork cracklings (not in the menu). We happened to stop in on a night where they had brisket and that might just be our new favorite. The fried chicken is pretty impressive as well!

I’m here from Detroit this food was horrible! The ribs taste like oven ribs, Mac taste like box , the yams were not and over cooked, the greens no taste. I will not be returning here. For the money I not worth it!!
