A friend recommended this place. We were in the area and decided to stop in. We arrived about three in the afternoon. The shared parking lot had a few cars, and the outdoor seating, although nice, was completely empty. We actually hoped they were open. We entered through the side entrance and were immediately welcomed by the bartender/server. We forgot his name but he was a very nice guy. He told us we could sit anywhere and he’d come to us. The vibe of the restaurant is dark and moody, and I loved it! Our server told us that dinner started at four, it was about twenty minutes til four, so we asked for the dinner menu in addition to the lunch menu given. Our server told us that the chef was a stickler for time so it’s a possibility that if we wanted something off the dinner menu (again, dinner will begin in fifteen to twenty minutes) he may deny our request. A few moments later we asked if we could have an order of fried green tomatoes (off the dinner menu), and we were denied. By this time, it was five minutes to four. Our server then told us that if we ordered the fried green tomatoes as a side to our meal instead of an additional side, the chef may agree, and he did.. We ordered fish and chips (fried green tomatoes) $18.00 and a burger with fries $16.00. Service was great. However, the food was just ok.

Anvil has great food and ok drinks. I wasn’t thrilled with either cocktail I ordered although our bartender was great and bent over backwards to please. Our waiter was amazing and gave spot-on recommendations which we really appreciated. Ended the meal with a decadent dessert and had a most enjoyable evening.

Simply delicious and the view from sitting outside is gorgeous – great pairing. How tastebuds-satisfying it is to add blueberries and blackberries with the French toast.

One of our favorite brunch spots in town . Great food, made fresh, homemade bread and desserts….different stuff weekly so it’s always a different menu twist. Penny is our favorite server but the entire staff is really good!

The food was very expensive and tasted pretty mediocre. I chose the grilled chicken sandwich which I didn’t care for,. It came with a salad which was quite good and had fresh cut vegetables. My daughter ordered the fish and chips. The fish tasted plain and was in a thick bredding.

Hands down the best on 280 if not Birmingham. Brunch especially. Top notch service and locally owned and sourced.

Very underwhelming experience. The hummus was very good, but everything else went downhill from there. Our waitress was very sweet, but she was spread too thin covering tables both inside and outside. I had to go to the bar myself to get second round of drinks. The entire wait staff seemed confused and unorganized. Our entrees where just bad. The worse burger I’ve had in Birmingham. The aioli had turned bad, and after asking multiple times for a side of mustard, they finally bought me an expired jar. The chicken tikka Masala was over spiced, and the fried oysters on the oyster salad were anything but fresh.

We went here on a Saturday around 5:00. It wasn’t too busy and we were seated immediately. Our server Brittany came with waters pretty much immediately! She was one of the only servers there and even though she had a lot of tables she was a great server and very attentive. The food was fantastic and the atmosphere was great too. Great patio! We’ll be back!
