This was my first time to Birrieria El Gordo. This is another Yuma taco shop where the exterior definitely doesn’t match what’s going on inside the restaurant. It’s located in the “Big Curve” shopping center and you would probably drive by if not for Google maps. The inside is much more colorful and has good taco shop vibes. They have daily specials and Thursday’s special is the “Quesabirria XL.” We decided to split the special, 1 birria ramen, and a birria taco for good measure. The Quesabirria XL and ramen are both good but I feel that they are a bit of a novelty act. It’s probably worth trying them once but when I go back I plan on sticking to the tacos. However, due to its size, the Quesabirria XL is good for sharing or as an appetizer for a group. Birrieria El Gordo does have good daily specials so I will plan my next visit on Taco Tuesday where the special is birria tacos!

The other reviews are right. We were all hoping for some good food, just like they show in the videos on social media… but it was a let down.

Been there about 5 times. the first two times were on taco tuesday when the tacos are $1 each. I waited a good 30 minutes for 10 tacos and then another 10 minutes for the consomé because it doesn’t come with the tacos (had to get back in line, wait for the cashier to finish making my order in the back). It can literally be dead, no customers, and the cashiers will take forever to come take your order. The last few times, the tacos were very very greasy, and old grease at that.

I have never seen birria pizza and have seen birria ramen only a few times so we had to try both. The quesataco was my favorite item of this first visit. The pizza was good hot but when the crust got cold it was not so tasty. The ramen wasn’t great but it was good enough that I will try the Tapatio ramen next time for a couple bucks more. My friends got the mulitas and thought the quesatacos were better. The Rolls and Bowls is gone now. I’ll definitely be back to try more.

The food was amazing! The red salsa was hot and delicious. Service was rated 4 stars because I waited 15 + minutes.

Birria El Gordo has quickly become my favorite restaurant in Yuma. The food is phenomenal and the staff are extremely nice and helpful. I recommend the Quesatacos (as many as you can eat) but the Tapatio ramen is also very good. They have great options for family sized meals as well which I’ve bought for work functions on a few occasions. On top of everything, they give a 25% discount to military / LE / and first responders. Can’t recommend this place enough and I’ll definitely be back!

Our food was okay. Fries were greasy. I was expecting waffle fries as the menu showed, but didn’t get them. Sadly hardly any toppings from the salsa bar to put in our food. The torta was good.

The service was pretty quick and the cashier was pretty cheerful even though I had arrived 20 minutes before closing. I ordered three birria tacos, a generous size birria quesadilla and a soft drink. The tortilla for the quesadilla had a crisp crunch to it but the texture was very “Airy” and felt like a fried donut. Very delicious. The salsa bar had just the minimum amount of toppings such as salsa, onions, lemons and cilantro. If you are hungry for anything birria related in Yuma, give this place a try.
