Well it was just so nice! A hometown restaurant with really good food and the dinner portions were much larger than we were used to. I mean, when you get a catfish strips dinner with sides of house salad and potato salad, you expect a small bowl of three item salad and a 1/2 cup of potato salad. My heavens! the potato salad was filling a big soup bowl, and my salad was layers in a big pasta bowl. The catfish was crunchy, sweet, not greasy, and filled a 10-inch plate. Husband had a cheese burger with onion rings piled up. Said it would have been best if they used Duke’s instead of miracle whip for the mayo. Oh, we thought we needed a starter, so we ordered fried mushrooms, delicious, but oh so many. Had to bring most of everything home for later. Definitely will be back!

It may not be a gourmet restaurant, I suppose, but all the food I’ve had there is very good, the service is very attentive and the atmosphere is really comfortable, especially given that great view of the river. The salad bar is small but has a surprisingly good variety of items, all fresh. They usually have a choice of desserts, too, including several flavors of ice cream.

Have been there twice, really good both times. Salad bar looks small but has a big selection, including chicken and tuna salads, enough to make a meal itself. Fried catfish was lightly breaded and tasty. Service was fast and friendly. I don’t know who supplies their ice cream but it is ‘way delicious! And, of course, there is that river view….

I recently ate at Welch’s during the past few days while staying at Gen. Butler State Park. We order club sandwiches for carryout & they were delicious! We decided to go to dinner there the next night for dine in. The owner is incredibly nice & they have been in business longer than I have been alive. They have a mice menu for breakfast, lunch & dinner. I ordered the shrimp dinner which came with a salad bar, one side & dinner roll for $13.99. It was definitely good food for a good value. The wait staff was incredibly friendly & told me how good their desserts were. I was full unfortunately. I would definitely go back. Good food, great value & small town charm.

Breakfast with a view! Big windows overlooking the Ohio River allow you to feel like you’re almost on one of the big barges that move along the river. The breakfast offerings are basic but the portions were sufficient to feel me up. The home fries appear to have been baked rather than fried as they were not greasy at all. On the downside, at least for me, the grits are served with butter flavor already mixed in. I prefer my grits plain with a pat of real butter, thank you.

For My wife’s Birthday I was trying to think of somewhere different. We remembered hearing of Welch’s. It was about a35 minute drive but with every minute of it. Our waitress was the hardest working young lady you’ve ever seen. She seated is by the window, and that was awesome having such a great view of the river. We ordered chicken, I ordered the 3 piece meal with fries. They gave me 4 pieces because they weren’t huge pieces or whatever. The fries were awesome as well as the chicken. My wife ordered boneless chicken tenders and they were terrific as well. Thanks for a great experience Welch’s!
