Dropped by for lunch to try the buffet. Chips and salsa are fair. I really enjoyed the beef empanadas and the Sorullitos. The beans and rice were pretty good as well as the mashed potatoes. The only problem I had was that the empanadas disappeared quickly off the bar and none were put out to replace it. I arrived at opening and they may have not been ready for the size crowd they got. The food was good enough to give the place another shot.

We always drive past this place on the way to the beach, and we finally decided to eat there on the way down for dinner. We loved the buffet. Every item that we ate was so good and we left feeling full. Items were a great mixture of mild and spicy.

As a fellow Puerto Rican my family and I were excited to see that there was a Hispanic restaurant other then just Mexican for once! We pulled up and the lot was completely empty which made it seem like they were closed because the glass doors seem to be tinted so it looks dark. We walk in and it’s dark and completely empty. Anyways we’re greeted by a waitress who was completely lost and awkward as can be. Long story short, all the help there seemed like a few random high school kids who volunteered to make a few bucks on the side with little to no knowledge of any of the food…. To someone who isn’t familiar with this type of cuisine they probably wouldn’t find anything wrong but to the native Hispanic this food was sitting out for HOURS under heat lamps! All the meats were super dry, mac n cheese dry and looked like a solid block of cheese, all the meat pastries were hard as a rock and to top it off we had to fight off all the flies. In all seriousness I would never recommend this place to anyone, I’m not being unfair I’m being honest. Drinks were super watered down and the other “high school” employees were all huddled around the TV that’s supposed to be for guests just gossiping and acting childish. We really wanted this place to be great but it’s far from it and it’s saddening. You can tell this place is becoming disparate from how many times they painted the exterior to try and catch people’s attention and selling food on a table outside next to the gas station. It’s an awesome concept but a HORRIBLE location! My suggestion, if they had the opportunity, move into Dover!

Fantastic prices and delicious food. I usually order takeout during my long travel along the coast, and they’re even accommodating to the point of giving me boiled chicken to give to my dog. The empanadas are yummy, but what really got me was the chicken a la parrilla with rice and beans. Such a simply-described dish, yet so satisfying.

Food was decent, not real authentic Mexican cuisine. The buffet was $10 and you get what you pay for. The inside look as sketchy as the outside. Basically Dovers version of Mexican food, we weren’t impressed.

The food was delicious however the service was terrible. A female server was annoyed that we had begun to seat ourselves since no one greeted us as we entered. She must have been having a bad day; she was constantly cocky with her choice of words and had a condescending tone. We had a terrible experience because all we could talk about was her unprofessional attitude. We asked for a chicken quesadilla with chicken and cheese only. she referred us to the chicken quesadilla special that contained other ingredients and we reminder her we wanted it plain. Her response was less than helpful. She was attentive but seemed to be annoyed that we had the audacity to dine in during a particularly slow time. I got one smile during our time there and it wasn’t from her. We decided against asking for the manager as our past experience reminds us that ahoy could very well be THE manager. If they can’t promise better customer service, we won’t be returning.

This place has the potential to be a good restaurant. They need to work on better presentation in regards to the buffet, as it can easily discourage people from eating there. The pork chops were good, however my wife had to pay $3 for 2oz of garlic sauce; this is usually included with the mofongo she ordered. It is nice to find a place with a mix of two cultures, but the sign El Coqui could turn off Puerto Rican clients because of the wording Mexican cuisine underneath. The el coqui sign should indicate both cuisines as well as does the side sign.

Ordered tea, not sure what I got. Frijitas were luke warm at best, chili relentos, came wrapped in some kind of egg, Buffet had seen better days- too much unidentified objects. Used to have great food- don’t waste your time.

Everytime we head down south, or we visit the family in Laurel we go to this place to get the closest thing to being in PR. Alcapurrias are amazing. We even order 2 dozens to go while heading back to NY. Highly recommend coming to this place.

Stopped for lunch. Huevos Rancheros were excellent, w/ big slices of fresh avocado on top. Fresh squeezed lemonade, yum too. Waitress was a pleasure, refilled my lemonade to go.
