This was the best place we have been to in this area. This restaurant is farm to table and you can really taste the high quality local ingredients here!! Cocktails were really good too. Very innovative menu items you won’t see food combinations like this in any other restaurant, for example raisins and capers with the tuna or cardamom in the cocktail. Very crazy good. Highly suggest to dine here if you’re in the area

Not a fan. Hard to pick a special date night when you’re just traveling through town. Unfortunately everything was bland. Definitely focused too much on the looks of the dishes and not the taste. Ended up sending food back because it was just so bland. Not worth the price at all. The environment was nice although the outdoor chairs were rather uncomfortable which made our wait seem much longer. Staff was fine but not very welcoming.

My wife and I had a wonderful meal a couple nights ago. Great cocktails! She had a beet salad and Maine Lobster “Bolognese.”

The bread is good. Had the heirloom tomatoes topped with bitter, toasted parakeet food—not so good. The orecchiette with chanterelles was quite nice, except for unwelcome green olives with pit pieces that detracted. The rabbit was mouth watering, but the tomato paste and garbanzo bean soup it Sean in again was a detractor. The chef needs to learn that less is more. Lose the parakeet food, olives and garbanzo beans and let the tomatoes, orecchiette and rabbit speak more for themselves. The wine selection and service is good. The atmosphere is bleh, but typical for Bar Harbor.

I can’t find a reason to give Salt & Steel any less than 5 stars. The Lobster Bolognese was impeccably cooked, as was the duck. The oysters and cocktails were pitch-perfect as well. The atmosphere is warm and classy, but in no way pretentious. Wonderful and attentive staff as well. On the way out, we met a couple from Manhattan who was raving about the experience. I can easily recommend S&S as it was the best food experience I’ve yet to have in Bar Harbor.

I contracted Salt & Steel to cater my 100-person wedding in September 2022. We knew Salt & Steel was known for excellent food and prioritized using fresh, local ingredients. When my fiancé and I initially met with Kim & Bobby (the owners) they were so helpful answering our questions and offering their professional advice and insights.

Fancy restaurant, needing reservation to get a table for dining. Missed some dishes because menu was different (every night). It was a little pricy and good on presentation. The dining room was also very nice. After first couple appetizers, the room getting dark (kind of transitional bar style), it was a challenge to get the best pictures from the food. All looked very high end. However the food itself did not match to a very high level in cooking and taste. Nice to have some special moment, celebration, and/or anniversary, for example. A few dishes might not get full. Do prepare to get some more, e.g. a lobster roll, on the street (or from other bar/restaurant).

Wonderful little place. Visited fir our 10th wedding anniversary, and it did not disappoint. We did the tasting menu with wine pairings. Everything was wonderful. Great cocktails, too!

Very nice restaurant. Food was excellent. My cod was very good. Only complaint was it could have been hotter. It was warm but very tasty. My wife’s Moroccan chicken pasta dish was unique and very good
